Hi Ed,
Since your hull is arriving, lets wait for it and once its there you can measure the mounting holes and Im sure Shawn can accommodate you with the mounting hole dimensions of his.
Anyway, feel free to choose a strudder that you will feel comfortable in using and if it doesnt match the mounting holes of the hull - you can plug those holes and make new ones. Chances are they're pretty standard, but things can go slightly different as well.
Dont let the stock mounting holes affect your hardware choice - you can easily take that out of the equation by plugging the holes and working on a clean slate.
For one thing, you can also consider the stock MG strudder - just add the ose offset standoffs and you're good to go. It perfectly fits the mounting holes and you dont have to add a short copper stuffing tube to join them together. I dont think there were issues on the strength of the stock MG hardware.
The only issue however is that if you will elect a slightly bigger flex shaft - will it still fit the stock strut. The guys here could probably answer this for you.
Btw, I am not as experienced as you guys are in working with chassis. For starters I want to stay away from drilling or plugging holes until I get used to the boat. Then maybe I can venture into deeper waters... no pun intended.
So, are you saying that the stock MG strudder is inferior to the R2, FC or OSE strudders? What is the difference?
Also, do any of the above strudders (except the stock one) fit perfectly on the MG w/o any mods for mounting position on transom or adding that piece to join strut to stuffing tube?Axial Yeti XL - Traxxas Slash 4x4 (x2) - Losi Mini 8ight - Tacon Soar Buggy - Blade 120SR - Miss Geico 29 (hull + parts)

I like the Kentec offset rudder. I used a plastic pin in the lower bolt to act as a shear pin in case I hit something.. It comes ready to bolt on.Miss Geico CC1515 2200kv T180 2S2S- Twin Genesis with 2 2700kv 2 T180's 4S2P- Stiletto with 2030kv T120 4S1P-DF33 4082 1600kv T180 6S2P- and lots of gassers!Comment
