Im sure in behalf of Tagasagwan, we truly appreciate each & everyone's input in this thread - hopefully it also helps out even lurkers who happens to stumble in here. Comments, suggestions & ideas are always welcome, so feel free to do so.

Being in Manila, we could easily get hobby stuff from both china/hk and shipping costs isnt bad at all! However, with the MG - I envisioned a bit higher in quality thus I was looking into the 1515/1y motor. I never had a CC motor before, so maybe this would be a perfect time to try one?
But CC motors are indeed pricey - so Tag and I are looking in the secondary market as well. We are also entertaining other alternatives if any so we wanted to hear from you guys about their performance, etc.
Our club here in Manila is basically just a bunch of guys enjoying the hobby and we dont have any sanctioning bodies like what you guys have in the US. We seldom race, but everyone is obsessed with speed and performance, so while it just boils down to "bashing around" - we run as if we're in an organized race hehehe!

The biggest motor I currently have is a 3674 Turnigy 4-pole 2200kv which I bought for $40ish thru HK - it is the motor that I used to power my 29" Bugatti boat in my avatar.
Im looking into a 40mm motor - maybe a 4074 or 4082 for the MG but I believe I also need to hike my esc to 180a as the ones I have are only 120a. HK sells the 180a for $77 - but out of stock at the moment.

I recently embarked on my first gas boat project, so funds for the 'electrics' have been diverted a bit but good deals that could be used for the MG will always be welcome!

Here's the stock flimsy plastic canopy that we fiberglassed. Due to the process, we had to replace the stock styrofoam with a higher density foam shaped to fit.
Now I feel more comfortable running this tom!

Im currently working on a few details that I'll add to my fiberglass canopy copy - hopefully I could show it to you guys by Monday.

Hello again macdon. As to the esc. I think hobbypartz, com has the Hobbywing 180 in stock for $92. I have bought from them in the past and have had good luck with them. Toysonics.com also has them in stock but they will set you back $98 and rocketcityracing also has them for just over $102. You could also get them here at O.S.C. but they are out of stock right now. If you don't want to wait you might try Hobby Partz... There are a few other places that may have it in stock but they will cost more than at O.S.C.

        Hope this helps,

        Eric

                Playing around with canopy designs

It was really busy the last couple of weeks, so I didnt get to update this thread, but here's something that we have been playing with since then.
Going over the missgeicoracing.com website, I looked at their canopy design and made cardboard mock-ups of the air intakes.
Having a spare fiberglass canopy helped in sculpting the mockups to the stock design and at first my design consideration was to be able to add these intakes to any existing stock MG29 canopy.

We didnt have the right color to match the proboat MG29, so we used some left over avocado-ish paint which we used in the ride pads.
I also need to add black paint or decals for the intakes.

                LMK what you guys think.

Wow! Macdon, That looks awsome. I happen to like the old version better without the fin but you did a great job on this. I like the way you painted the top window hatch. If you stuck with the old or stock hatch look and can do as good of a job on it as you did on this one I might be interested in one. If the color isn't going to match the hull exactly I might just go for a canary yellow or aquamarine color to give it a little contrast. Much like my SV-27 avatar. For those who like the larger 3 intakes and fin at the top you may just have a clientele. Keep up the good work.

Hahaha - nothing really definite as we're just playing around, different looks, etc.
To start with, I just browsed over missgeicoracing.com and said to myself - "heck, lets do that"!
Like I said, if you guys have any ideas - post some pics and lets see where it takes us.
Have that coffee, im having one as I write this.

                            Thanks Eric!
My worker can make me a bunch of fiberglass stock canopies as we have a mold - but for me I just hack the top off to build one-off designs. I could actually elect a flat base and attach a lizard's head on top if I wanted to hahahaha!
With most of our prop works, we normally just ship it in grey primer - we let the end user decide on color and naturally let them paint it themselves in their preference.
You guys have more resources on paints than us over here and our interpretation of any color maybe different from yours.
However, if its a base color and most folks order it in that color - then my worker can consider painted items. Since different folks like different strokes - we provide primered instead.

These "add on" items maybe preferred so those who like side intakes only or center top intake only can choose what options they like best.
But like I said, Im just playing around with these stuff so any ideas would be welcomed & sppreciated!

Sorry Macdon, I don't recall if it was you or someone else who told me you don't have to use clear coat on these. If that's true is there a spray paint that would work and end up giving a nice glossy finish without clear coat? My idea would be to mask off the window areas then starting from the rear of the canopy paint a coat of yellow and fading to red in the front. I might go for a metalic bronze for the windows. If I can do this with spray paint I'd have no problem doing this myself. Heres are photos of a truck I did this to.
