only 12 cells gonna start with a k40 because there is no water cooling, the speed control came out of a truck, i really dont think i am going to get the performance i am looking for because of the lack of water cooling, it will get hot but how hot , its expected but i shall see tomorrow
I here ya steveo. I have good water cooling for my 9xl coming, but I am not so sure about the ESC. I think I am going to shrink wrap a fan to it for now...Maybe make some water cooling plates later.
What I need is some artic silver thermal expoxy to get some brass tubing glued to the thing and I think i'll be in business.
LOL...I guess I have to ask....Will a FDM32 even plane out on 12 cells? That does not seem like enough.

yes there is plenty of juice to plane that thing out with 12 cells and a 9xl........what esc did you decide on........... my cat is 30" and i had a quannum 1350kv on 12 cells and a x440/3........ ran respectivly in the mid 30s
I decided on a hextronic 120AMP ESC. It handles 20 cells, and I am going to run 18 max. I would like to get some lipo's for boat usage...But already spending 200+ here on gear for the mono, and work slowing down here (it is michigan :-( I should hold off and just keep what I got. Infact, my Blast Cat 40 is going up for sale here this weekend so I can pay some bills and hold on to some of my savings. The housing market here is in the dumps BAD.
Anyway.... Thats that. So yeah. As far as props go, The smaller ones in my arsenal are as follows. 35MM and 40MM carbon, and a P215 and p220. I have larger props, but I do not think the 9xl is gonna swing a x447 or 48MM on 18 cells
I was looking at the props on offshore. There are several to try I think. But I wanna see what I can do with what I got here first.

Twisted a .150 cable today (my first cable failure) in a 29" P-Mono (12 cells, 4s LiPo).
2200kv motor with a X640 prop.:D
The boat took a litte hop over a wake, didn't get off the throttle in time. This was the result. I may have to go through all that trouble to change it over to a .187.
DAM DOUG! That sucks. Can I ask how long the cable lasted before it crapped?
I know what your trying to tell me, ;-) and if thats the case then i'm gonna use the biggest cable this FDM strut will handle. For now I guess I have 2 .130's on the way I can twist up with 18 cells.
Thanks for the pics and such

i finally was able to get the boat wet after all this rain, i was nice the 700sc was a turd compared the 9xl i am guessing very low 30's since the batteries have not been run for a while i was only able to get about 2.5 minutes of run time, this is with a k40 the boat ran great only a slight bounce but i have never had time to dial it in, it cornered awesome, i only guessed were the twin rudders looked straight i have to really dial those in there maybe some drag there (temps 123 esc, 150 motor, 140 batt the motor at its limit with no water cooling though, it would have been alot cooler
and for my next trick a 13xl on 18 cells coming soon!

I built that boat last Sept Chris. I don't have any idea how many runs I have on it.
I run the snot out of that thing!!!!!:D
I'm blaming the failure on the wake hop, poor reflexes, and the Neu motor.

Thats great stevo. On 12 cells low 30's is good for that hull. I am gonna water cool mine and start on 16 cells with the 35MM prop. I guess I am gonna try a lot of stuff, but first run I think I am gonna do 16 cells. Maybe 14 I dunno.
What a K40 prop? Carbon 40mm?? Is that what you mean?
and hey stevo, was your ESC water cooled?
Fast Electric and Fast Ford's / V8 Mustang Enthusiast
yes the carbon prop and no the esc is a bk 9920 for trucks and cars, no water cooling but bk does make the esc with cooling, 99amp 20 cells, it worked real nice low temp i have the bec diabled and i run a u-bec so i dont run a seperate reciever in the truck its a voltage regulator never have to charge up a rec. batt you just wire it in series with your esc , its good for up to 50v and knocks it down to 6v for the rec.
Thats cool stevo. Glad to see the 9xl is working OK.
I always run a 5-cell pack. Except for the SV27. I was sold on this when I could tell a differance in speed running my late electric LST. When I used a Rx pack and disabled the BEC the truck had more get up and go.
So steveo, your gonna swap motors and not go up on cells with the 9xl? The 13xl sounds cool, but i'm not gonna have one. The best i'll be able to try is 20 cells on a Quannum 1K motor with a large prop.
I'm almost thinking that I am gonna run the quannum first. My OSE order should be here tomorrow or tuesday, and my batteries shipped friday according to the seller. Hong Kong is gonna take 2 weeks for sure. I got a coil for the quannum i'll run. I'll post some pics, and if someone else is around take a vid.
Someone was saying it had lots of tourqe and would do well, but geared 1.33:1 with a 55MM prop it would only do 25MPH....... So i'll run it on 18 cells and a flex cable and we'll see.

i would have to use a gear with more cells but i dont want to spend $80, plus gears, i rather spend $70 and use the props i got, and the 13xl is a little easier on the electronics , i'm sure the 9xl will do the same geared right
