If you guys do use wax, don't wax the bottom of the sponsons. That would not be good.

Yeah, the sponsons should be slightly rough to the touch to create air pockets and reduce drag.

Yup, I just didn't want anyone to get too happy with the wax

funny but i used to detail cars and seems to me it would be better to wax it cuz the wax repels water therefor making the surface more slick causing less drag???but no i havent tryed it on any of my boats yet..

Give it a try, tell us what you think.

I've done both and was really surprised at how the rougher surface seem to have more slip.

Slick surface vs. Less surface, less surface wins. With a bunch of tiny holes created by the roughing the surface area is greatly reduced whichis less drag. Waxing will make it slick, but will actually keep more surface area "glued" to the water creating more drag. Funny how that works. I scuff all my hulls and never clearcoat the bottoms just me. I think if you wax it you'll find slower speed and higher temps. JMO

                  Try Rain-X on the bottom.

Alright Gerry, gonna dig up an old thread. How is your genesis doing? How much did you run it, is everything holding up or have you started replacing electrical compenents yet?

thank you if you can give us an update, Brian

First off, I will not be taping the hatch. I hate that and I fear about the paint. Even if you clear over it, the weak adhesion layer is still there. I will seal the hatch the best I can using soft closed cell foam and latches.

Second, I will be working on the ESC. Redo the cooling (everyone I have opened up the cooling contact has stunk) and I will water proof it. Not just shrink wrap and silicone.

My Rc is potted, so it will work underwater. Only thing other than that is the servo and I will do my best on that.

I will also reglue all the wood hardware inside to make sure it stays attached!

Looking forward to this one in about 6 weeks!

Yeah i hate taping the hatch but i realy dont want to drill anything for hatch pins or a latch but now i gess i should have cuz ive pulled off alittle paint!!!! As for my esc and inside the hull im not to worried cuz ive already flipped it and had to swim out for it and buy the time i got it to shore and opened it it was dry inside better than any of my other boats!!!

Have you tried using a spray on wax on your hull? You don't loose much hold but it provides just enough wax to release the tape without risking pulling u the finish.

what kind of tape do you guys use??? I use black electrical tape and it doesn't peal off the clear like the clear hatch tape or hockey sock tape does, you should give it a try.
