    Hello from Australia!
Ive recently purchased one of these boats from HK and am wanting to know how many of you guys have run the stock motor on 5s and how long did it last? Im only running a HK metal 440 prop that I've sharpened and balanced, at a guess Id say its going close to 60km/h and running temps are in the high 50s to mid 60deg c range highest being 64degC after 5-7mins of running time, I haven't timed it, just guessing, but I do have a temp gun. Curious so see how you guys have gone with 5s. Ive read this thread from start to finish and realize the motor is crap and will be purchasing the HobbyKing 2000kv T4082 asap and running 5s with that and maybe a bigger prop again.
That said... if I can prop up and go 50mph on 4s with the stock motor at safe temp, for now, I will. I have the T120a ESC.
Im finding a lot of water in the hull at the end of a full pack pack run. (300ml or a little more)
Any tips on how to keep the water out guys n gals? I tape the hatch (carefully) and have sealed up around the water hose inlet fitting also I have pressurized the cooling system and there are no leaks.
I want to try a self bailer in the back of each sponson but need to be sure it wont upset the handling first. I would consider looking into doing a latch set up but would really like to see some pics of how others have done it first, not sure how I'd work that one.

    Thanks in advance. Tristan.

Hellow Tristan and welcome to the site!! im no good with the power stuff so i wont try to tell you what to do there but as for the water leak i recomend remove the electronics and fill the hull with water to see where it comes out,, i can say with mine running mid 50's i get alot of water up the flexshaft,, i still havent gotten it completly fixed yet so cant coment yet but i do no they put very little sealer on all the gear out the transum so it maybe in your best intrest to remove it all and reseal it all, just to be sure!!! Plus there have been lots of threads here on the Genesis so it might be better to go to the top of the page and type in Genesis in the search to find asmuch info as you can!! hope this helped alittle..

Hows it going down under? We are up under;BC! I read your thread and after thinking about the water problem, check the areas where the rudder is,also check around where the stuffing tube goes through the hull.6-7 months ago I bought one of the Genesis boats.I gutted it and started my build with an empty hull.I decided to twin the boat, more expensive but should be worth it.it is a lot of work and lots of nicks on the hands.Running twp leopard 3674,2800kv motors with 2x125 amp esc,The stingers I got from Germany, and they came with ball bearings, flex shaft, teflon tubing and brass tubes.stock rudder 2X 5000mah 40c batteries.using the traxxas casing to protect the r x.the servo battery and throttle wires sit inside and it is totally sealed.I am putting on X442L and x442R to start.Gotta make sure that the flex cables correspond with the props. One turns to left and other right. The cables also are designed to spin one or the other.getting back to your problem. Some guys like the bailer and some dont.I tried one in my bj26 and after two months it did not work almost lost the boat so garbage can item.
        Gotta go..............those wives..............HAHA Have a good one
        AL
        Oh! I only have one...........

I personaly dont use autobailers, i dont want to take the chance of anything sticking and leaving an open hole in the boat, even if the boat gets halfway full of water it should still float so dont forget proper floatation inside the hull, super inportant!!!!

            Thanks heaps guys!!
Its nice and warm here down under had 27deg c ambient water temps yesterday and summer hasn't started yet!! Otherwise all good, lots on the news about this massive storm thats beating up the east coast of the USA atm, looks nasty!

Im going to stay away from the auto bailer, Ive cut up a piece of a water bottle that I sit over the coupling in the hull to prevent grease splatter everywhere. Yesterday I found that the boat was 99% watertight, if there is grease all over the strut leg at the end of a pass or 2. I didnt leave any gap between the prop dog and the strut which I think was a mistake but I haven't had it apart yet, setting that gap just right and getting it to stay there is a challenge. Also I need to trim the Teflon washer there as it sticks out a little which will pick up water somewhat.

I've decided to run 4s most of the time with the occasional run at 5s for a high speed fix until I rework the cooling system in a few weeks then i will do more temp testing, I will put up pics and results if I have a win. Im used to collecting data and working things out from years of drag racing, so hopefully I can figure this thing out easy enough.

I'll be happy with 50mph for now, will do more prop research over this week and see about driveline upgrades in the new year.

            Thanks again guys!

            Tristan.

              P.S.
HydroJerry, Thanks for the suggestion, I have read about 40 pages on here about the genesis, Im surprised no one has compiled a list of info since its such a widely discussed topic. Perhaps I will start getting something together, depends if the forum admin is up for it or not I guess. No one that I can see has reported temps of the stock motor and running times VS life span, I realize I need to get more detailed & accurate data myself for it to be of any use. Im going to start timing runs and recording temps today.

              P.P.S.
How often do you guys grease the flex cable and strut? I run my boat pretty much every day and it looks like its a daily requirement. Also how much grease are you using? I put about 15ML in and found that was easily enough to stop water... and leak out the back as i described.

              Cheers guys!!!

you need to grease the cable every time you use it. it will prevent water from snaking up the flex shaft.
the stock motor seems to run on 4S but wouldnt try a too big prop. it was a lot hotter than the 4074.
what do you mean you put about 15ml in?

you have to take the cable out and you put the grease on it, then slide it back into the stuffing tube :S

Hi mate. When my genesis was stock the factory cooling was useless. My motor and esc use to get bloody hot. Fixed that on mine by throwing in a micro water pump and running it off a receiver switch. Made a massive difference. Temps went down to just above ambient. Also when down to the local pet shop and got some slightly larger silicon tube with better internal diameter. Hope this helps.

My genesis cat is undergoing a conversion from single to twin at the moment. Was hitting about 100kmph on 6S but with the power I had it was way too unstable. Massive amount of prop walk if you weren't careful with the throttle. Hopefully counter rotating props fix that. Just lacking time at the moment....

iamandrew: Thanks for the info mate.
I put the grease in a syringe and put 15ml into the stuffing tube then carefully slipped the greased flex cable back up there. (sounds a bit dodgy..)

Diablo: Were you running 6s with the stock motor? how long did it last and did you record any temps b4 you fitted the micro pump etc.
Im keen to hear more about this micro pump install, where did you get said pump and how did you set it up mate? sounds like a good cheap way of getting some more life out of the stock motor while I get my finances sorted and get something bad ass.

Yes i see the irony of doing things on the cheap after putting what I have in my sig LOL.
                    Thanks again everyone.

Hi mate. Never ran the stock motor on 6S. Brought a turnigy 4082 1600kv motor and 180a esc. Had upgraded to a 3/16 flex drive.

Will see about posting up the pics of the pump setup tonight. But $10 for the receiver switch and $15 for the pump makes it a pretty cheap option.

Yeah that price is definitely right mate.

I just ran it on 4s in 26degC water got to 47degC motor, 45degC ESC and 50degC bat thats after 5mins with HK metal 440 prop. (not sure on the details of the prop, but I have sharpened and balanced it.
The batteries are turnigy 2s 4ah 40-50c dunno if thats hot or normal, its 30deg ambient air temp though so 20 above after 5mins in full sunlight running hard isnt really that much..... I think.

Im really surprised there isn't more info on this type of thing, surely Im not the only person in the world who has done this... or is actually checking temps.... maybe I am.

Anyhow, Cheers for your input and I look forward to checking out this water pump set up, if you wouldn't mind sharing Id like to know where you got the pump and switch from also. By all means Email me if you prefer at [email protected]

                        Thanks, Tristan.

One of the last runs with my boat before I started stripping it down

Will see if i can find better pics later. But the pump can be found on eBay. And turnigy receiver switch from hobbyking

Thanks heaps mate! Your a bloody legend.
That looks like a windscreen washer motor... I have a few of those laying around..... mmmmmmm, I didnt think they pulled water well at all, I will have to do some testing.
That thing fly's on 6s with the turnigy motor man, looks somewhat unstable! Did you get a read on the speed it was pulling, its definitely moving!?
I broke the sacrificial nylon screw when I ran over a patch of lillys down at the river this morning D'oh but Ive fixed that already. Im carefully estimating the speed of mine at 70kmh, will get a hot wheels radar gun soon and see what its actually doing.

I will make the planned mods I have to run separate circuits 1 through motor & mount, and the other for the ESC, with 2 outlets. Hopefully the rudder picks up enough to feed both circuits sufficiently, will know soon enough.

Some pics of that boat as it sits now. (if they work)
