No i got a new strut, kept all the original stuff so i could put it back if i ever wanted to.

Yeah i know what your saying about the clear coat, this has already happened to mine in one spot along where the back edge of the hatch is.

Didn't know what to do about it so i've put a decal over it to make sure it didn't get any worse.

Looks like i'll have to recoat mine at some point too.

I was thinking,,,i use dupli-color crystal clear clear coat out of a quart can think i may try to use a model paint brush on my spots to see if i can just touch it up or have to use my sprayer and spray the hole boat again...

I'm going to leave mine for the time being.

If i start to get it coming off anywhere else i'll recoat it, mines a small spot and covered completely by the decal.

So what do you think just a very light rub down with some fine sandpaper first??

I was going to just go with spray on automotive clear coat.

Give it a good light sanding before the clear coat. I've had good luck with Acrylic Lacquer.. paint does not like to stick to smooth surfaces.

One thing I do on these clear coated boats is to put a good coat of wax on them before taping. This helps prevent the tape from pulling the paint off.

Man ive never waxed any of my boats,,maybe i should..
If i do reclear mine i have some 400grit wet sand paper ill use on it and then clear it,,i think the Dupli-color i use is a lacquer but not sure,,but this sucks cuz the original clear is like glass...

I think i'll do what figtercat suggests and give mine a good waxing, makes sense that it will help with the tape adhesion.

I'll leave the decal in place for now as it looks okay in the spot where it is anyway and recoat if i get any more spots of damage.

I'm worried that i won't get as good a finish after i recoat it and if its not absolutely necessary i won't risk it for now.

Yeah, it'll never get as good as the original paint.

I use a product called "liquid glass". It was originally designed for classic Corvettes. Does a fantastic job and really holds up over time. Used to use it on all of my race glass on the motorcycles and use it on all my painted things now.

Thanks for that, i'll try and source some locally, if not i'll order some online.

A really good tough finish will just help preserve the finish too as i run mine in saltwater.

Well brackish water anyway on the river near where i live.
