Get some plumber's flux paste, dip the end of the cable in it, solder. Remember to clean thoroughly the excess flux, as it corrodes in time.... (well, years...). Best way to do it is if you have access to a mild sulphuric acid solution... works wonders, but it is very dangerous, as fumes also. BUT it cleans nicely and you get the best soldering available...
If you enter a DIY store for the flux, also look for flux WITH solder in it. It is a powder suspension in flux, very effective. Just do not buy the high Ag content, as it will require more heat...

Where did you get the servo mount from?

I don't have any solder on the end my flex either and after many runs I don't see any unwinding, the end is in the compression coupler so don't see it being a problem.

I just cut the flex, and the solder wont stick on it... Ideas? -cleaned it well and sanded it too.

And should the flex cable have "flex" ? or should the outer windings rotate some around the center shaft ?
Do you have a big enough iron? At least a 40 watt.

              80W

And I even tried the propane grill outdoors(14.4KW ) , no luck.

I only have some silver solder, maybe that is the problem.

It is soaking in 100% denat.alchohol atm, Will try again tomorrow.

I just did the servo linkages, so not too much to do.

Maybe I did not wrote this that clearly, lets try again:

If I hold the flex shaft on my hand and turn the prop shaft end the inner cable will turn with the prop shaft and the outer "winding" stays put. When I release the prop shaft, it "winds" it self back where it was.

So is this normal or should it all be single solid piece.

Maybe you are rotating in the wrong direction? Or the cable is the other way around? When it rotates, it should tighten itself to the core... As far as I know, the cables do have a direction of rotation...

No this is not normal. The whole shaft should turn as one unit.

I use a butane pencil torch to melt solder onto the end of my flexshafts...Works great!

                        This is not good

Make sure that you are turning it the correct direction. So that when you turn the end of flex and hold the propshaft it appears to "tighten" the outside coils.

To simulate a load on the flex while holding the motor connector still, you need to twist the prop backwards, ie in the opposite direction to when it is running.
You should then see the flex 'wind up'.
I never solder the ends of the flex either. I don't believe it to be necessary with hex-flex couplers. Maybe with the grub screw type it is, but I don't use them.

See the danger. THEN DO IT ANYWAY!!!

Ok, so the cable should wind some over that center rod. It only turns a bit and only to the opposite direction then the prop does, so it should be ok then

I installed the servo and the sv linkage only needed to be shortened -easy.

I also installed the water outlet, it is on top of the deck, near transom on left side (facing the sky) ,so the hoses can be short as possible(and the water spray visible).

Pics in few days, and then maybe some first run vids? -sadly my camcorder is busted so I have to use my cell

Anyways, this thing will be finished in a few days so stay tuned

                              It is getting there...

Gluing the last battery strap pair now.

Got the propellers and balanced the x440 ,so it looks like it will go in water tomorrow!
