HK restocked the Marine 120A in the wee hours of the morning. Now it's just the stupid motor.

Painting is a no go. It's been raining all morning. I will also be going away much sooner than I thought so my Kintec order will get here on Friday around the time that I'll be getting on a plane. My printed stuff won't be completed till the end of the month. My bolts are going to be here on Thursday though. But even those are going to be useless because I intend on using nuts from HK. The boat is going with me though.

Well I decided to go ahead and paint it. Chances are, I will not be able to paint it once I leave so I figured now is the best possible time. I put a few coats of white on, then as I finished my last coat, a bug flew into one of the corners. And there are a few specs in other places. Luckily, this is the underside. I'll have to sand the entire thing down, then repaint the one section that the bug gouged out. I just wanted the surface to get dry. Then I am going to move it inside.

Good news everyone! My Kintec order got bumped up to a day earlier for delivery.

Aside from that, I've been painting, sanding, painting, masking, painting.......for a while now. I'm also coming up with the paint scheme as I go. My model above was only a rough idea.

I did the "let can sit in hot water" trick. The result was a much glossier finish. The cowl looked flat compared to the hull/deck, so I redid it too. The red doesn't show up well with my iPhone 4.

I'll have to move the mask line further back for the front. It over sprayed like mad. Aside from that, it came out alright. I'm going to sand away some of the over spray with the highest grit I can find. Would it be safe to sand the red and white together? -as in move from red to white and back with one motion?

Has anyone ever heard of using electrical tape for masking? I don't really have any other flexible option. This is also the perfect width.

It left some sort of residue, and when I tried to clean it of, I ended up causing the paint to fog. You can see the residue and the fog in this pic. It also peeled a small bit of paint away on the other side before I actually pressed it on. That's when I took it all off. No harm was done to the port sponson. I'm just going to go to the paint shop tomorrow to see if they have something thin enough. Walmart also didn't have the gloss black the last two times I went so I don't even have the paint.

My attack plan is to sand the entire thing anyway so that should remove the residue or whatever it is. The fogged area will be under the black so I really do not care, but if I an't paint it black, then there goes my nice shine.

I am using Krylon Fusion by the way. I still need to find a clear.

For masking thin lines on our rc race cars I bought a couple cheap rolls of different thickness pin stripe tape at the local car parts store. Worked great and can make some nice curves with it too.
