    Hey.
Always before you a run any new boat do a water leak test on the hull and setup,
Look for water in the hull from lines,Hardware holes and stuffing tube and flex shaft, And also water jacket.
Than if all good do a one minute run and check for water flow and than bring in,
And check all temps on everything.
That is, Esc and Caps, All Connectors, Motor end caps.

Than do a two minute run and do the same temp check again and so on,
If all good do a full run and check temps again.
    ? ONLY IF THEY WORK

I recently rigged a cat with a motor I had run several years ago. I had not removed the cooling jacket and the motor never leaked. But before I ran the new setup I blew through the water lines checking for a leak. Guess what - the jacket O-ring was leaking. Had I run the boat for "two minutes" without checking first for leaks it would have been full of water and sinking! Checking temps after two minutes is useless unless most of the run was at WOT. As Doby stated, lots of part-throttle will heat up an ESC fast. Running three minutes at WOT may give lower temps than two minutes at part throttle. If you don't want to go fast the first time out, put on a small prop and keep the throttle pinned much of the time.

I made a lil water hose to be able to flush boat after each run as I live on a house with saltwater. Got the hose piece with flow control at Home Depot in garden section and a little t-fitting to hook up to both my water inlets. Can check for leaks at same time flushing everything out. Works great.....

I want to upgrade my flex shaft like Chris suggested from the 3/16 I have to a 1/4 in flex shaft. My rigger is 3/16 so would this be the flex shaft I need? http://www.rocketcityracing.com/RCR-...ml........Also my collet is a 5mm x 150 so would I need to replace the insert in the collet with this one? http://www.rocketcityracing.com/Aero...-SS_p_464.html .....Or do I need to buy a whole new collet? I cant find on OSE site a 5mm collet that goes to a .250 flex cable..... Thx Jeff

Are you going to use a 1/4" cable in the Popeye? Isn't that over kill? Anyway, I think people who use this would use motor shaft at least 6mm, most probably 8mm. I run that configuration with a Neu 2230 which has an 8mm shaft. The insert is for replacement only, it can't go into a 5mm x.150 collet, pretty sure of that.

Neu 1515 1y in Popeye , timing 15*, why is it running warm (hot)

I upgraded to a Neu 1515 1y, strut all the way up as Doby has suggested, using X447/3. It runs dryer but took her in after 2min. and was quite warm. The caps on the ESC were like 132* F, motor was also that range, battery not bad, 105* or so.
Should I lower the timing? "Y" wind likes higher timing, I guess it was just warmer than my previous set up which was a 4074/2000kv Leopard. Maybe has something to do with my poor driving, I slowed down evertime when turning, there was a heavy lift helicopter 50' right above my head pulling cables from towers , man, talk about distraction!
I am uploading a video, thanks in advance.

I would try the timing at 7* to 11*
