Aha! That explains it. "International" doesn't impose the same 1 cubic foot limit before the charges go ballistic. I don't know why USPS needs to rip us off for shipping within the 50 states! Really weird about that charge from Fedex. I have shipped HUGE and heavier boxes with FedEx ground to Canada for less than 1/2 that. Guess you can never second guess the shippers, right!

trust me when I say this, you guys have it MUCH better with USPS than we do with Canada Post.

Example......

I used to manufacture custom aluminum antennas, and ship them out all over the world. They were JUST narrow enough to make it through the 3/4" mail slot gauge (they check the width of the parcel). It cost me $1.20 to ship to the US. If it didn't clear that slot, the charge instantly shoots up to like $6, even if it's in an envelope.

Also, when you guys ship, it's always got tracking. If I want to ship something to a town 1 hour away, and was it trackable, the STARTING price for an ENVELOPE, is something stupid like $8.

So trust me, the Canadian postal system is significantly worse than the US postal system.
