Jesse,
You're gonna love FedEx ground. I have sent HUGE boxes all the way across the country for very reasonable cost! I have also been pleasantly surprised with the 'speed' of delivery. I sent two boxes 4' x 2' x 2', each weighing around 25 lbs, from Tampa to Detroit. The cost for BOTH was less than $50 and they got there in three days! That was a couple of years ago and I know their rates have increased, but not that much.
The Post Office has priced themselves out of contention for me. One of the products I sell would cost $40 through USPS priority mail and it is $13 by Fedex ground! It rarely takes more than 1 or 2 more days than priority mail also.
If FedEx ground is as fast as Jim says, he may have it by this evening... I will get it out this afternoon so Robert should be tearing you up by next weekend for sure! I will see if I have any other goodies I can throw in to make SURE he does more than keep up with you!
IF the receiver is close, say same state or one state away, I've had FedEx ground get there in 2 days. If going all the way across the country, like from here in Tampa to California, 5-7 days. Washington State, add another day. Damn sure worth the wait for the lower cost.
As with ANY shipment, pack it well! I mark all of my shipments FRAGILE and also DO NOT STACK. I'm not sure the yahoos pay any attention to that but if you can keep them from throwing a 100 lb box on top of yours, half the battle is won! Good luck. Let me know how it goes.
If it works out good for you, you can sign up online and get an account. That way you can do all your shipping online, print the label, etc. IF you need help with that let me know. Of course they'll also send you free supplies too! Good outfit.

fyi: ups is idiotic on international rates, typically double or more.
I used to get pretty good rates from FedEx, but I caught them overbilling me by $10,000 over a 2yr period, one of these 'hand in the cookie jar' was a $400 surcharge on an international shipment that was supposed to be $60.
Now I do all our internat shipments thru usps, prices still seem pretty high, but at least I know they won't be hitting my account with some silly charge that wasn't quoted.
5 cars, 9 trucks, 2 scale, 1 crawler, 2 boats, 8 helis, 3 planes, 1 jet, a hydralic endloader, and that’s just the ones that are rtr or nearly so, not even counting the ones in a bucket, ugh, I got it bad.
My HPR 115 just arived this week fedex ground from california and they abused the box but Brian packed it extreemly well and the hull was in perfect shape! The box was 5'x1.5'x1.5'
Robert you will love this boat! it is one of the best running monos I have seen. Jesses offered it to me but I had to pass due to lack of funds. Jesse if you need packing material I can give you all that came with my hpr (large bubble wrap 4' long and a billion penuts)

There are duties in different countries and they all differ.
To do it 'properly' you must declare the value of the item. In most cases 'value' is what someone is willing to pay - the quintessential definition of monetary 'value'.
Many people will ask you to write 'gift' on the paperwork. If it's a 'gift' there's no duties in many countries. However, this is very illegal if it's not actually a gift. Person to person you probably won't get busted.
Business to person can get busted and if they are the fines alone exceed $10,000, that's not including the criminal charges and what you'll pay your lawyer to get out. If you are a business it's just stupid to play that game, there's no savings and the penalties are huge.
Also, sometimes even when it's marked correctly they don't collect duties.
A screwy game. I (my biz) won't play. We mark them correctly and let the chips fall where they lay.

Lots of companies have been caught lately with the 'gift' thing. We are asked by customers outside the US all the time to mark as a gift. We won't do it.
If selling something used, we can do individual to individual and then for value, mark it as used and set a value low enough to give your buyer a break.
The Canadians don't have to pay import duty on "toys and models". We don't have to pay it in the US either but the Canadians have to pay 14% tax on everything I think. We always ask if they have a US address we can send it to. A lot of them near the border have a post office box or something in the US. They have to go pick it up and still have to declare it crossing the border and pay the tax. BUT it's not held up in customs forever that way.
BE SURE TO INCLUDE SOME KIND OF INVOICE IN THE BOX PROVING THE VALUE. Canadian Customs doesn't like to take the buyer's word for it!
