Here's some updated pics, wider forks and bigger floatation to handle the big scale boats and the orange tips really helps lining up when it's far away. The rod in the middle helps prevent you from driving up over the little riggers and upside down boats. The outdrives are angled to keep the front down as well. And LED's for night op's.

        Yeah! it works!!!!
I need to practice to fork the boat straight when it's far from me ... that's the only problem

I've been trying to tell people getting lined up when it's way out there is a problem. Good luck with that

That's why I use the "snag & drag" method.

I tried that method too. I couldn't tell if the retrieval boat was in front of or behind the boat I was rescuing. Then the retrieval boat died. Waste of time. I bought a kayak and roof rack fir my car. It's funny cause people spend thousands on boats, then want to have a cheap method to get it back. Instead of spending 1000 bux on ANOTHER boat, spend the money on a real method. The kayak. Jmo

Snag and drag won't work if it upside down or buoy nose up will it?

Earlier this year i bought a Rio EP just for being the rescue boat. It even has rescue written on it lol.
I build these floating rigs that I set the Rio EP into and use the boat to power them. The first version was only to go and catch downed boats. Either right side up, upside down or even buoy nose up. Works great.

Then a month or two ago I got the idea to add my camera to the rig to go and film out on the lake to get some different footage. I added a camera mount and a base that can move 360 degrees to point the camera around. Added a tethering line for safety to the camera as well. There is also great stuff expanding foam inside the PVC. And I have saftey ropes tied to the camera mounting structure in-case the rescue/camera rig get hit by a speeding boat and it breaks it the ropes will keep it together still. And there are small guy wires on the camera tower to help stabilize it.

I am also going to make an optional drag line that can be clipped on the back for going and getting a boat that can be snagged easily. So i'll have the best of both worlds :)

                            Video telemetry ??!!!

Yep, I can understand that. And at a distance, even using binoculars, I am sure it gets real tricky.

Don't laugh, but I am thinking about fitting my resuce boat with a telemetry video camera, and using a reciever with video goggles - just like driving the rescue boat yourself, and being able to get up close and personal with the boat you are rescuing. Well, that's the theory. Quite a few systems and gear available now - mainly advertised for planes, but I don't see why we couldn't use it ourselves? Should be able to line up the rescue boat really well this way, I would think??

Looks like the investment may be a few hundred bucks - and maybe never needed - but in the overall "scheme of things" it could offer some increased peace of mind for when things really go "pear-shaped" a long way away from you. And could be an interested "project" all by itself. Just got to convince the "boss".

                            Cheers,

                            Jon
