I like the outboard idea, seems it would be the easiest as you dont need anything else. Just something solid to mount the motor and servo to.

I have been using the fishing pole with Tenis ball and have a blow up raft for a back up. Fortunately I've only had to use each once. When I used the raft a recue rig wouldn't have been of any use as I got stuck on a rope for a roped off swimming area.

Thought I would add my rescue rig to this thread to. I started this as a winter project, and have used more time and money then is needed for a rescue rig, but its a fun project to spend the time on. Not had it on the water yet, but getting very close to the first running test. This boat will be able to lift speedboats out of the water or pull larger boats. The lift rig is not started yet as I am waiting for more materials.

Building progress is posted on this forum: http://sunnfjordrc.no/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2850. It's in Norwegian, but the pictures says most of it anyway.

            This is the current progress:

Wow, what a machine. Does it have a hammer that comes out and smashes other rescue rigs - oh wait, that's a different show :) Nice work, can't wait to see it in action.

That's pretty sweet, what are using for the lifting part?
It would look awesome painted like a North Sea service ship.

Two sail winches will lift two bars that will be mounted in slides between the hulls. They have a combined lifting capacity of about 26 kg. I don't have the materials for this yet as some of it was on rest order. Expect to get it some time in the middle of January. I am also in the process of mounting a large servo on the rear of the aft bridge that will control an adjustable hooking mechanism. This will be used to pull larger boats, mostly scale models, back to shore if something happens. The hulls have a displacement of about 23 liters unloaded, and i expect to have about 14 kg of capacity left when the boat is done. With a tunnel width of 35 cm i should have plenty capacity to lift whatever i can fit in there.

I am going to paint it red with a couple of white stripes, so it will not be to far from a North Sea paint scheme.

The plan for the future is to mount a camera with wireless connection to video goggles. I am looking at some of the FPV systems available for this. Also thinking of mounting a HD camera on top and use the boat as a filming platform. Think it will be nice and stable for this. A member of our club has a quadcopter he uses for filming as well, so we should be able to make some interesting videos together.

That sounds amazing I've been waiting to see FPV used on a boat. There's a guy in town with a quad copter for filming that I'm hoping to get out to our pond for a race next season.
The overhead and chase views would be pretty cool.

                            Shockwave 26 Brushless rescue boat

This is my rescue boat. It's a (Diesel6401) design so I can't take credit for that but I did make a couple of changes. I made the arms removable for easy transport, they screw on and off. And I used some Velcro to hold it to the boat that also keeps it all together when in transit.

Took my boat for a quick test drive yesterday. Its just the hulls, no lifting ready yet, just to test maneuvering capabilities. It worked very well, some issues ofc, but they will get sorted out. Adding some more flotation and maybe change batteries to lighter ones.
