    Hi All

Just tried to run my Cat today

When i run the boat now i can power up to 1/2 throttle okay.

But when i try to go past that level the motor just pulses and wont run constantly

anyone got any ideas what might be causing this.

    Thanks

Sounds like esc maybe taking a crap. What's your set-up, esc, motor, batts ect...?

Interesting. With the seaking esc I doubt it fried not saying it's not possible, but those are decent esc's. Try using a different motor for bench testing, it's possible the motor de-maged. Did you ever experience very high temps on that motor? Another question I have is what is the lvc setting on your esc set to? If it is on, try turning it off, then testing it. If it was my boat I would do the following steps:

          1) Check esc LVC settings, if on. Turn off. If this fixed your problem leave LVC turned off and time runs to ensure you don't drain your lipos to far down.
          2) If you have another motor laying around, hook up to seaking esc and try. If it fixed your problem your FSD motor is damaged.
          3) If you have another esc laying around, hook up to FSD motor If it fixed your problem you seaking esc is damaged.

            Hey Diesel

I forgot to say that i have the LVC set at 3.0V.

I haven't had this boat long and i've only tried running it 3 or 4 times.

The first two times i ran it, it went well for 2-3 minutes, i kept the runs short to check for any overheating and keep a safety margin for the batteries.

After those first 2 runs, this pulsing problem started and its not run any good since

I could easily touch the motor and ESC after those runs so i don't think anything has ever got too hot at this stage.

I haven't got another motor laying around, so the easiest thing for me to try first will be to turn off the LVC.

I will try that today and let you know what happens.

I have another ESC but its a 60A don't know if that will be okay to test the boat.

Might sound silly, but what radio are you using? Some AM/FM systems have interference issues that can create those symptoms.

Well according to FSD data chart that motor will pull 80+ max, not sure what consistant pull would be, with that being said I would not recommend using the 60amp esc as a permitant fix. But to answer your question, with no load and just for a quick test that 60amp esc can be used for testing only. Just hit really quick to make sure it doesn't pulse, don't wind it out WOT for very long though as running a motor with no load can cause failures. Turn the LVC off first though. Down the road you really want to change that motor out, right now that is the weak point of your boat.

The motor I was using is for sale in the swap shop. You would need to change the motor mount though. For a stock mount, the leopard 4074 motors would get that thing moving. A 1800 on 5s, or a 2000 or 2200 on 4s would work great. Like mentioned above my 580 got me into the 50s, on a m445. But with a CF45 it ran cherry in the high 40s.

For those who want to use a 36mm can, maybe a 11xl on 6s or a ammo 36-88 on 6s. I think this cat is a little too big for the 540xl size motors, JMHO

                        Hi All

I ran the boat this morning with the LVC disabled.

Exactly the same problem, no difference at all.

I took my card and tried different timings on the motor, that made no difference.

I tried running the motor briefly out of the water, it doesn't seem to pulse with a short run at full throttle with no load on it.

I'm using the spektrum DX 2.0 with SR300 receiver, the receiver is running off the BEC in the speed control.

Any suggestions on a decent motor (reasonably priced) motor to go for as a replacement if i need to ???

                        Thanks for your help

JMHO, but if you're in a position to do it, replace the ESC & Motor. I put a Castle Hydra and Neu motor in mine and it's been trouble free and is warranted. =)

                              Hi All

I just ran a tub test so i could load the motor.

What i have noticed is that when i go for full throttle, the light on my receiver pulses in sync with the motor pulsing.

Its like my receiver is cutting in and out at full throttle.

Interesting. Continue troubleshooting, try disabling the bec and running a rx pack. Use a very tiny flat head screw driver and lift up on small tab and remove the red wire from the esc plug which goes into the receiver, after that plug an external rx pack into the bind/port of your receiver.
