Pile of parts arrived from OSE this afternoon!

Milled open the existing hole in a set of IM31 turn fins to .350" to mount them into these more standard mounting brackets.

          Travis,

Dug out a picture of that 17" Carbon Mono you were mentioning.... Every bit as nice as the bigger boat.

Darin that thing is sooooo nice. I think I'm gonna have to get one. I sent the wife a eBay link and said Father's Day idea.

I deleted my posts from yesterday because I was taking part in derailing your thread myself lol.

Started getting things in place to mount the motor and install the flooded stuffing tube.

Going to have to mod the motor mount to get the motor at a shallower angle and deeper into the keel.

Motor mount won't be centered, as I am mounting the stinger slightly towards the right side of the keel.

I'm setting the up with one of the huge Octura 5mm to .187 couplers, so things will fit regardless of the coupler style/size.

Going to fill in this section of the carbon side pieces so I'll have more material to work with. Cut some thin carbon plates and CA glued them to the outside. Then filled in the gap side with epoxy generously mixed with milled fiber.

When you mount the motor off center, does that help with the torque roll?

When you mount the STRUT off center, it can help with the torque roll. Mounting the motor inline with the strut just keeps the driveline straight.

Made a little more progress before the weekend slammed to a close. Sanded the epoxy fills flush, and machined in some slots.

Also (after these pics were taken) extended the two factory slots to allow the longer motors to share the same installation angle as this shorter motor. Once the driveline is installed, you won't be able to change this angle, so it's important to make sure all the options will fit.

Fitted the stuffing tube assembly and installed it into the hull last night.

After lots of trial fitting, trimming, and aligning, I got everything in place. In order to assure a perfect motor-to-stuffing tube alignment, I always get everything tacked in place, and epoxy in the stuffing tube with both the motor and the strut installed. I adjust until I can slide the flex into the coupler without any deflection.

I tacked the motor mount and the stuffing tube in place with CA.

                              20160531_180554.jpg

                              20160531_180608.jpg

I used a piece of hatch tape over the face of the stinger base to seal the transom and prevent the base from being epoxied in place.

                              20160531_181903.jpg

I trimmed the aluminum stuffing tube to a length to where it JUST fits in flush to the mounting base of the stinger. I had to open up the stinger base to 9/32" to accommodate this. I think some variations of this stinger assembly come already bored for .187. I think this one may have been for a .150. Either way, simply tweak and it now fits fine.

I temporarily mounted the stinger base, sliding it to it's lowest possible adjustment.

                                20160531_183050.jpg

                                20160531_183101.jpg

At the base of the transom, around the carbon outer tube, I floated in some epoxy mixed with a little bit of milled fiber.

I then mixed in some more milled fiber and some fumed silica and spread the resulting epoxy "paste" in alongside the carbon tube. Tried to be neat about it, but wasn't really able to get my hands in there very well. Once this gets setup, I will go back over it with some more epoxy "paste" and fill in the voids, etc.
