kfxguy: What kv are you getting your 1527 wound in? Neu factory does that for you? Didn't know they did custom wounds... Probably a bit of a long process I'd imagine...

Nice build you have. The wiring/cap bank looks very nice. Those big gauge wires can be tough when joining things together, at least for me, lol. Do you run a spark arrester. Is the SF esc similar to the mgm you have. Im looking to get an esc and was leaning towards one of these to use and wondered if you had any preference between the 2.
Thx. I have both escs and have run both. Let me tell you my opinions and experience of both.....
The mgm is nice. Very nice. The driving manners are very smooth. It has no lag and will control the motor very close to what a sensored setup is like. You can turn the prop so slow that you can almost count the revolutions. It's that smooth. It seems to limit power on high power setups tho. So basically you'd need to get one with a decent amount of overhead. Very compact and the data logging is nice and easy to use.
The sf300. It's big. But not too big. I don't like the wiring layout. The data logging is not as nice but it works. It has a lag or sort of delay. The throttle isn't as smooth down low. But....this Esc puts the power down. It handles what you throw at it. I feel like it's a pretty stout Esc and I prefer them in fast setups32" carbon rivercat single 4s 102mph, 27” mini Rivercat 92mph, kbb34 91mph, jessej micro cat(too fast) wasComment

They do custom winds of you pay extra lol. Yea I think it's been a month. They finished my custom 1521 (whichbis way too high kv to go in this boat lol) and supposedly they are going to finish my 1527 next week. It's 1650ish kv.32" carbon rivercat single 4s 102mph, 27” mini Rivercat 92mph, kbb34 91mph, jessej micro cat(too fast) wasComment

Thanks for a real honest opinion there of both units. I come from racing 2wd buggies and relate to what your saying about the smooth throttle, that's what we wanted when you have limited traction. You already made up my mind what im going to try next. Txs for your input.Thx. I have both escs and have run both. Let me tell you my opinions and experience of both.....

Love the color Travis.... as you can see I truly like the color lol...
BTW, I also truly believe in sanding the bottom of the boats ride area only.... I always tape off the area I want sanded with painters tape, then sand and remove... I'm sure many do this also... but the tape makes it so the sanded area almost looks like "bottom paint" and looks more appropriate.
In fact I ran a new mean machine just a few days ago.... had factory finish... ran it.... then sanded hull, without adjusting ANYTHING... I didn't GPS but the boat ran faster.... and yeh no GPS it didn't happen... well it did happen... I would say 2-4 mph faster, and the boat handled better also....
Anyway Super Nice, and Clean build... not that I'm surprised with your past builds lol..... I'm in the process of finishing up a kbb too!....

Yeh the hardware is probably overkill... Its All MTC (except turn fins).. 400oz hitec HV digi trq servo to try and keep the big rudder blade in check. TP4070 1050kv... going 8, and 10s. Going to start with a x447 on 8s... and shake it out from there...
No build thread..... sorry.... its a purpose built build though... no frills just a simple interior... I mounted the servo at an angle so it would have a perfectly straight shot to the rudder, and I could use a beefy rudder push rod.... I used "hanger 9" ball bearing rod ends for steering also... years ago I had a big mono I couldn't figure why it had odd handling characteristics, all ended up being the pushrod flexing... NEVER again :)
Not to mud up your thread, but heres some more pics... its going to be a runner... not a admirer :)Comment

I have looked a bit online and even on H9's site can't seem to find the hanger 9 ball bearing rod ends... I'll be at the hobby store soon lol, and I'll get the part number as I see he already replaced the packages I purchased... I believe they come in red too... I liked the gold...... They have no pivot ball so the linkage has to be pretty dang straight! I see the alloy ends w/ pivot balls and bearings online via ebay by other china manufacturers... Probably good too...Attached FilesLast edited by JMSCARD; 08-08-2015, 08:54 PM.Comment

Man, that color is so appealing, it's the nicest lime green I've seen. Your quality of work has also improved a lot in the last year. I think you used to care more for function over form, now you're adding some bling everywhere no more of that gray jb weld, looks way nicer now and it's fun to see every update as there's always something new.Comment

Looks great. I've got to ask a dumb question. Shouldn't the cooling jacket be longer? What happens to the part of the motor that is bare?Comment
-
A longer jacket would cool better I'm sure but they don't make a longer one like this I'm using and the mount I'm using won't fit a longer one anyway. It not going to hurt tho, this setup is over motored anyway.32" carbon rivercat single 4s 102mph, 27” mini Rivercat 92mph, kbb34 91mph, jessej micro cat(too fast) wasComment

Thanks. I try to do it better on every build. I'm still using the jb weld because I know it works but for cosmetics I brush black epoxy over it.
I try to do different things on each build, if I didn't it would get boring. There's going to be some things that I'll always do the same because they just work.Last edited by kfxguy; 08-09-2015, 11:16 AM.32" carbon rivercat single 4s 102mph, 27” mini Rivercat 92mph, kbb34 91mph, jessej micro cat(too fast) wasComment
