Wouldn't the boat run a bit faster with the bottom sanded until the gloss is gone?

That's always a debate. 1:1 boats aren't sanded are they? Their props aren't satin either, they are polished. I've tried polished and sanded on my cat and I didn't see any difference from what I can remember but I'll test it both ways again. Plus when I took the pic the paint was still wet, so it couldn't get sanded at this point.32" carbon rivercat single 4s 102mph, 27” mini Rivercat 92mph, kbb34 91mph, jessej micro cat(too fast) wasComment

Why would it be faster with the gloss sanded? Wouldn't that actually hurt speed since the gloss would be a smoother slippery surface... Thats like removing wax from a surf board
BTW... This bright green color would go really well with any sort of black-- maybe black racing stripes or anything like that...Last edited by dmitry100; 08-02-2015, 12:22 AM.Comment

Age old debate.
I'm thinking about decals. I have some black carbon fiber vinyl. I'm trying to cut the windshield right now.32" carbon rivercat single 4s 102mph, 27” mini Rivercat 92mph, kbb34 91mph, jessej micro cat(too fast) wasComment

Not too bad. I got the file perfected for the windshield decal so I had my wife cut it for me just now.32" carbon rivercat single 4s 102mph, 27” mini Rivercat 92mph, kbb34 91mph, jessej micro cat(too fast) wasComment

I know it's a debate. Just looking for your opinion. Sounds like the data may be conflicting. I have heard that the issue is surface tension, but I don't understand the technical factors. I have two sanded boats, but I got them that way from other club members. I also have two new boats to prepare for club racing. I'd sure hate to sand them and have it hurt the speed. I wonder what the FE NATS guys do.
Anyway, Travis, I do love your boats and build threads.Comment

I've been reading on it all morning. Seems like 600 grit is where it's at. Fwiw my previous kbb34 is sanded but only because I removed the hook from the bottom and didn't polish it back out. And yes I removed the hook from this one too. I'm following the crucial parts on this build to the "t" and improving some small things here and there. I hope this one sees 95ish. I have better props to play with this time too. My Cg is able to be adjust a little more too on this one.32" carbon rivercat single 4s 102mph, 27” mini Rivercat 92mph, kbb34 91mph, jessej micro cat(too fast) wasComment

Good looking paint right there!
I say the bottom sanding depends on what water conditions you run in... If you run on pure glass then I'd sand, if running in chop as I do then its smooth bottom. My opinion though. Why are you bothering me? I want to see your boat!
