I don't doubt that in the least given the ponds proximity to the surrounding salt water. I've yet to see a non-tidal influenced pond have brackish water intrusion other than as stated above.

      See y'all on the 1st!

Since I was off work today and we had some low wind weather took a trip down to Bee Ridge to do some flying this morning.
On my way back home stopped by Ackerman and we need to see if the county has funding available to treat the lake for algae growth. The photo is from my iphone and not that great but should give an idea.
At the very least we should bring along a rake or something to clear the launching area when we go back on the 2nd Sunday of January

Well that sux. Ill try and remember to bring some round up as well. Those steps are getting overgrown quickly. Ill call the county AGAIN and see if they actually call me back.

We need to post on the upcoming events calender for the swap meet/run for Feb 12th...

Why even bother with the county, we will be waiting a loooooonnnnnng time for them to do anything. One of us can bring a weedeater and a rake to take care of it.

Main reason for trying to get the county involved is that the chemicals for treating the lake are restricted to professional use. A rake will suffice for clearing the area but it won't eliminate the growth. Hmmm I wonder if a swimming pool algaecide would be effective?

On the swap meet, we really need to get the details ironed out before listing it. I'm still in favor of a $5.00 setup fee for anyone selling stuff. We'd also need to hold any running until after the swap meet portion has concluded for safety reasons.

On another subject... Hugh, are you bringing Q to Encore or just sticking to the smaller stuff? I'd like to find out what I need to get prepped for running on the 1st.

Yeah the county contact would be for the algae control. I seriously doubt pool chemicals would do it, and certainly wouldnt do it quickly. It would take A LOT to take effect Id think.

As for the 1st, I think Im just bringing my two Geicos, LSO and STD.

There is a special copper chemical used for treating algae growth in lakes. We can't buy it. Pool chemicals would be useless. If Akerman is designated as a storm water retention pond, the County should have a program for treating it.

First I've heard of the Feb 12th Swap meet date. Is that the date? You definitely must restrict all running during the swap meet. If somebody wants a boat demonstrated before purchase, they will have to wait. Once one boat goes in the water, everybody will want to. I suggest the swap meet run from 9a.m. til Noon and then have an auction at the end for stuff that didn't sell. A $5 fee is very reasonable.

Be SURE to advertise to all boat clubs. Rudders, props, struts, hulls, etc. are good for nitro/gas as well as FE. You need to emphasize that in the flyers. Also welcome nitro/gas boats, engines, etc for sale!

You need to check the local clubs' contest schedule and try to be on an off date!

                                Bill,
Bring your Q boat they are to much fun to leave at home. I'm bringing Q, LSH, LSO, OPC Tunnel and 1/8 scale if anyone else is bringing one. What about food we need to know how many are coming for sure so we can buy some hot dogs, burgers, chips, buns, sodas, ketchup, mustard, relish, paper plates, napkins etc.
