I really don't know that much about the big hydros. I picked up a used one that needs refinishing and motor, etc. added. Can't tell whether that Expresscraft comes with a hatch or not?

From what I could see in the photos on the lower right of the page, it appears to have a hatch. I think the biggest problem with this one would be the weight. If it would build out at 8 lbs it would be ok but if the hull weighs in at 8 it would wind up being as heavy as the big 45" mono I had at Archies last Sat.
Hebner, you need to break down and trade that little truck for a mini van.Mine will hold my big 6' Cermark F-16 along with 5 or 6 other smaller ones and the required support equipment. I can pack a pretty good assortment of boats into it as well.
Is there a website for BBY? I'm still "shopping" and looking around.Comment

Don't worry so much about the weight! Herb Stewart set the IMPBA SAW record with a 24lb. 25 year old Hydro at 74+mph! Of course he was running a BAM motor on 12S I believe.
Anyway, weight can be your friend! 8 lbs for a hull that size isn't bad.
Your 45" mono is amazing on a 1527! You usually would need a bigger motor than that for the speed you're running according to Ken Haines.Mini Cat Racing USA

Strap that puppy on the top! You need to make a second "layer" in the truck bed.
Randy at BBY could probably tell you the bare weight, he build this boat for the person I bought it from couple of years ago. This is a carbon fiber hull that he makes. Only trouble with bringing to Ackerman is I won't have any room left for my other boats in the back of my truck.Mini Cat Racing USA

Bill, remember to stay in the Classic Hydro style. I'm not sure about the rules but I think they are split up by blocks of years.
Hugh, what is the history on your hydro in terms of the full scale? My Valu-Mart boat is 1976 I believe.Mini Cat Racing USA

I went and checked out the bby website but the biggest thing I saw there was a 1/12 hydro.Comment

Perfect! Yours and mine are the same era. I guess I need to read the namba rules for 1/8th scale! Not sure if there is a limit on motors, cells, etc.Mini Cat Racing USA

I've been looking. http://www.expresscraft.com/hydro.htm looks about the right size but would like it to be a little lighter.
I do not think that hull will qualify as an 1/8th. Very strict rules on how much variance there can be from the full size boat.
