I got a chance to run the No Step 1 again yesterday. I ran it before on Friday if I recall correctly. Anyway, it now features OSE carbon fiber turn fins which are working quite well. Setup is Cuda 80, Lehner XL 5000kv, 2s1p capable of 125A continuous, RX pack, .130 to 1/8", Solinger H/W.
When I ran it on Friday, I ran a x435 and it ran OK, but only reached speeds of 30mph or so. Yesterday, I put a Grim 36 x 55 and managed 32mph. I'm not sure where to go with this and I don't have any experience with a mono. Next I'm going to try moving the strut down a little as egneg graciously suggested one day at the pond, but it seems that there is very little adjustment in this direction.
I have to say I'm a little lost. When Drobie had this boat, it was doing 40-42mph on two 6-cell NiMH packs in parallel and even though I've tried some 2s2p setups on the same motor, I haven't been able to repeat this success even with the exact same props he was using on the hull. The only time I got it to run faster is when I mistakenly wired the 7s motor to 4s1p instead of 2s2p. Then it ran great and stable, so I know the hull is capable, it's just something with the setup.
I'm hoping one of you guys can help me loosen this thing up and get some more speed out of it. My only other option is to start turning the trim tabs down and angle the strut up in the back on the prop side. Next I guess I could start playing with the timing, but I don't want to cook everything if there's something else going on. I don't know what else to do.
Any ideas?
