Havn't tried it in big chop yet but at those speeds I think I'd bee a fool to push a 29" hull to those speeds on 6" chop.
Would you know the distance between the mounting holes of the 4082 motor?

Hi there macdon. In regards to weather or not to buy a tupperware sub hatch, I would. Again if this boat blows over the canopy probably will crack and often explodes on impact. In that case the "tupperware" sub hatch is the only thing between your electronics and the water. B.T.W. the sub hatch is able to take much more punnishment than the hatch itself. Just be sure to tape the hatch as the lips of the hatch usually remain in tact which will keep the sub hatch from coming off.

I agree with you eco - that is a good point.
However, since Im leaning towards a fiberglass canopy soon - I may not need the tupperware sub hatch.
Being in Manila, ordering either a canopy or tupperware hatch lid could take 2-3 weeks. I bet shipping them half-way around the world would even turn out to be more expensive than the items themselves. I could have the canopy molded and pulled a copy from the mold in 1-2 days.
My plan might be more expensive initially - but so is buying hatches & canopies in the future if you happen to be unfortunate.

Here's an idea - how about a fiberglass hatch lid & canopy? Overkill?

I see your point macdon. If you tape the fiberglass canopy you shouldn't have to use the tupperware sub hatch. The only reason I would use the tupperware is due to the stock hatch being so fragile in a blowover. If in doubt you may go ahead and order a tupperware sub hatch allong with other items if you can find a place that sells other items you want as well to save on shipping. Under the canopy I wouldn't worrie about the sub hatch breaking. Even when my hatch exploded my sub hatch always remained in tact and in place. I just like having ot there in case of a crack in the hatch but with fiberglass it would take a heavy hit to cause it to crack.

                Electronics are in!

I had to relocate the rudder linkage hole as the stock location was messing with the offset standoffs. In a way, it now looks symmetrical with the water inlet hole on the left side of the transom.

I hope to maiden her today!

Hi there macdon, never measured the mounting holes in my 4082 but I can tell you they are the same distance as the stock MG-29 motor mounting holes. The Leopard specs indicate the mounting holes on the 4082 are 25mm. apart so theres nothing to worry about there.

                        Maiden Run!

Nerves got the best of me - so with a shaky controller I could only muster 3/4 throttle

I guess this happens to me everytime I run a boat for the first time, but with the MG - it was more apparent! Thoughts of having an unprotected canopy that could shatter in a blow over and running 2 x 4s for the first time just made me go easy doing ovals while I struggled with the demons in my head.
After making about 7 ovals, I took it out a bit further to finally gun the trigger - so with a slow turn at 1/4 throttle, then 1/2, then 3/4 ..........and as the MG went faster with thoughts of finally pulling the trigger to full - the boat stopped right smack in the middle of the pond! No controls were present, so without uttering a word - I signaled our retrieval boys to go and get the boat.

The black battery lead of the 120a esc got unsoldered from the deans which was the reason for the boat stopping. Since I didnt bring an extra esc, that was about it for the MG that day.
For those few minutes of playtime, I find the MG to be a joy to run! It runs smooth with no 'bad habits' and promised myself that next Sunday's run would be a lot different!

Great shots of your MG there macdon. Looks like there was a bit of chop on that day. Say, Pardon me but for the life of me I can't recall what motor you're running. Neither the size or the kv. On 29.6v I hope its a low kv. motor. I'm turning 48,840 no load rpms. with my 2200kv motor and many feel that's foolish on my part. I know that's well below what the motor is rated at and I've had no problems with several runs on 6s but I'm curious what motor you are using. Your offset rudder standoffs seem to be doing the job as your boat ran smooth. Don't know if you will notice the same thing I do when you do finally get her to full throttle. Mine seems to settle down at the higher speeds. Let's just put it this way macdon. I know if you've kept up with my replies you'r probably tired of hearing this but I've run this hull with a 4082 2200kv motor and an x645 prop on 6s at full throttle and found her to be very stable. I think more so as the speed picks up and the boat really gets on plaine. Of course I worry some when I see a large wave in my trajectory at W.O.T. but don't we all? Hope you will be yet another happy camper when it comes to this hull.

Don't know if you ever tried this but I used to have a 4074 2150kv motor in my Surge Crusher. I think I was using an x442 prop again on 6s and she handled just fine. I did notice after several runs however that the hull had a crack next to one of the battery trays. Don't know if my setup was too much for the boat or if the batery managed to come in contact with the hull but that just might have been a bit too much power for that boat. B.T.W. the first time I took my Surge Crusher out I was using a 120 amp Turnigy esc and it couldn't handle the amp draw so now I use the Hobbywing 180 amp esc and my temps remain well within the safe range. I'm now using the same 180 amp esc in my MG with no issues. I also have one of these in my other MG. You may consider upgrading to one of those if you can. If you do make that upgrade I'd at least upgrade to 5.5mm plugs.
