...With some of these smaller boats... you simply can't get enough floatation in them to hold up the weight... I've seen a couple of boats go down that had what we thought was plenty of floatation, and they sunk anyhow. Just not enough volume inside...

Yes I know. I had a rigger that was repaired and was heavier than it was originally. It sunk and just barely returned to the surface, only to have 1/2" floating above the surface of just one sponson. It doesn't stop me though from shoving as much flotation as possible. However, with the heavier electronics and very limited space, I'm sure that a few of mine would still sink, but it doesn't hurt to try! At least that way, if it comes apart, hopefully bits and pieces will still come to the surface, even if you have to recover the main section.

Oh by all means... I put as much in as I can fit... I was just saying that, even with that, it's not always enough... That's why I try to focus on keeping the hatch on in the first place, since this seems to be the cause of a lot of water coming onboard...

Yes and hatch tape is cheap, I use plenty.
