As strong an advocate for offset rudders as I am this setup hurts performance in my experience. The very pretty and also very well made super strong bracket drags in the water and acts like a parachute. I have tried to figure out how to do this in other ways and at this point I am not sure anything other than a stand alone slim transom bracket brings anything good to the party. I have been curious how the two small tubular extensions, like HydroJerry shows above, work performance wise but they too drag in the water and are not without a penalty in my opinion.

Have you run this setup yet and did you run the standard inline rudder setup first to have something to compare it to?

Thanks for the pics guys, it helps alot,,, i ran mine first with the inline and the only thing i realy noticed was that when turning it would hook real bad, like do a 180,,, now with the original motor etc, it did straights nicely no pulling to the wright but after going to the big motor it started the pulling wright thing, thats why i wanted to try the offset as a posible fix, but now after the offset i beleive it pulls wright from even a slow speed, now i didnt get to check it out good cuz the motor coupler but i have seen others do like Gators and am thinking that maybe the way to go!!!PS last night i did fix the cooling (Dave) dont no how i missed that and i had plenty of threads showing on the flex so i removed the drivedog and moved it back towards the rear of the boat alittle so the flex did bottum out inside the coupler, hopefully now it cant draw backup and cuz the coupler to slip anymore..Comment

Guys, mine pulls to the right with the offset, so it's not guaranteed to be a fix-all. Dave has previously pointed out to me that if I was offsetting to fix the right hand pull, I should have mounted it on the left side - where the drag would pull left. This makes sense, but I'm not about to make another bracket. :what:
I really only offset to get the rudder out of the prop wash.
I sorta reinforced that area with cf cloth scraps and resin when I originally built the boat. I would definitely recommend doing something similar to what most people do for the rudder. (cf plate). I could have done a much better job knowing what I do now.
I avoided the strut mounted standoff more out of a durability concern than a worry about drag. I think that bracket/standoff should be out of the water once on plane. It just may take more power to get there. I'm more concerned about the strut mount type holding up to a high speed flip. Mine survived a few that wrecked my servo mount and bent my 2mm ss rod.

. I will have to pay closer attention on the next run.

I think it could be prop walk in some cases,
Or hardware to far off the transom on the cats.
I do not think they like that to much,
But not sure on that.
This is mine and I think it run pretty straight, I am using a Tactic TTX-240 2.4 GHz,
With a x442 prop, seaking 180a, Neu 1515 1y 2200kv on 4s2p 5800mah Gps at 57 mph.

Let me know what you think, I know I know it needs paint.Last edited by lenny; 07-26-2012, 07:19 PM.Comment

I used the one from Kintec with the red AL ball pivot.
Jerry, another reason to offset is the ability to adjust the strut up while running a big prop. Not sure you will need to, but something to consider if you plan to.
