    Grimmy

I guess what I was trying to say was if the rules are not clear about what you can and cannot run in a particular class, how do you propose to bring in new blood?

Hell I have been racing nitro for years now. I can take my stock or mod tunnel and run anywhere in the country without a single problem. But trying to find out what "Spec" as far as P Tunnel is, has done nothing but give me a headache and wonder why I even thought about it in the first place.

I was under the impression that "P-Spec Tunnel" was the equivalent of nitro's "20 Stock Tunnel". For that assumption, I'm sorry if I'm wrong.

I was looking at it from the viewpoint that it should be relatively easy to put together a Spec Tunnel as I thought it was roughly a "stock" (as far as named motors and esc's) class. I'm finding that that is not the case.

I think the biggest thing I have a problem with is that the way it stands now WTC wants you to run this, Impba says you can run that (for now...). Namba is the same.

I travel anywhere from Florida to S.C. multiple times a year to race Namba and Impba events and love it. But if I gotta have different equipment for each race, just getting into FE, then who are we really looking out for. The new guy just starting out in FE, or the FE vets who just don't want to buy any new proposed "Spec" stuff?

    As Darin Stated:

ANYONE, who has already invested money into this class, KNEW from the start that this WAS NOT a "LEGAL" NAMBA, or IMPBA class. They took that risk of knowing that, once a set of rules were actually decided on, some of their equipment may have to be changed to conform.
To me, the key word in his statement above is "already"

I Don't mind if I have to run only AQ stuff, or if I can go out and get the latest Castle and hottest motor of the week. But unlike the guys who bought stuff Knowing it may not be legal later and are now fighting to make the rules fit them, I just want to know what I need to race and be legal anywhere. Yet still be competitive.

And not be one of the ones who "already invested money" and have to change later.

Not shouting or starting anything... I just wanted to be informed

Darin and Doug, thanks. You guys have explained all I need to know.

    Peace Out...

      Hi Bill,

I don’t think that you and I have ever met, but I have there are a few that have posted on this thread that I have either raced against or raced with. I think those that read this will back up most (if not all) that I post about MY experience with the P Limited/Spec stuff. Mr. Grim falls into that group too. Mike and I have established a great working relationship and friendship collaborating on this P Limited/Spec stuff.

To be quite blunt, and answer your question; If you buy the Aquacraft 60amp controller, the Aquacraft 2050Kv motor (the UL-1 power system), a good 4S 4500-5000 (35C+) battery, a 29”-31” tunnel hull, and an OS lower you will have a boat that has all of the “fix’ens” to competitive in any NAMBA, IMPBA, or WTC race.

It seems you know how to set up a boat, do props, and have driving experience. With all of those combined you will have everything you need.

I don’t normally “toot my own horn”, but in 2009 Grim was nice enough to lend me his TS3 prototype tunnel to race at the IMPBA Internats in Seville, OH and the NAMBA FE Nationals in MI. The boat finished in first at Seville, and second at the NAMBA FE nationals. While at the nationals, the boat also set the record for fast heat time and 1:52. As far as I know that record still stands today. Again his boat was set up with the same components as I have listed above.

After racing Mike’s tunnel I built a VS-1 for the 2010 season. My VS-1 set up just as described as above. For the entire year the boat was class of the field for our club races. I let another club member take my boat to the NAMBA FE nationals in CO. While his finishes got better as he learned how to drive a tunnel (never raced one before the 2010 NAMBA Nats), I had several racers that I respect greatly tell me that boat was wicked good at the nationals and once my buddy Fred figured it out he was going to be tough to beat. I also took that VS-1 to Canada for a race and again did quite well (second place).

What I am trying to show in my long winded reply is buy the components that will allow you to meet your goals. In other words buy the equipment that WILL allow you to race at all the venues you intend to. Work boat set up and props. You will be competitive!

      Happy Boating in 2011,
      Mike Ball

Bravo to posting it on the IMPBA forum especially since the subject is about IMPBA rules. This will be my last post on this thread and in closing to all I'll say one thing- read what Mike "longballlumber" Ball posted ..... then read it again. His post is excellent and spells it out the benefits of the P-Spec class with established guidelines for what's allowed. Someone like an IC racer looking to cross over and get a taste of FE without spending a ton of cash has a nice short simple shopping list to give it a go that WORKS.

I hope everyone has a great day, I'm headed back out to the shop, supposed to be in the mid 60's tomorrow so it's time to get stuff ready to test.

Just got back from Graves in Orlando and picked up the AQ 2030Kv Motor and esc. Checked the mail and the OS conversion kit had arrived as well. Looks like I'll be starting my build this weekend.

Thanks for all your help, I do appreciate it.
