Do I buy it from China or the USA???

There has been several talks about buying from China or the USA. I don’t want to get into the continental buying battle. We live in a small world these days and each consumer has to weigh ALL the pluses and minuses to where he or she buys an item.

So, I want to tell you why I think OSE has it over some of the competition.

    1) I try to offer a reasonably priced item every day, on every item. I probably won’t be the cheapest all the time, but I have more to offer than price alone.

    2) Quick shipping. All orders are shipped within 2 business days(unless emailed). Most times the same or next business Day. And most customers in the USA will receive orders within 3-5 business days.

    3) All items are packaged well. This may sound crazy, but I've received more than a few orders from companies with things swimming, I mean banging around the box. Those items needed returning.

    4) I handle all order mistakes or problems with a quick response. Being a hobbyist myself, I realize the urgency of needing items and want to get any problems fixed asap.

    5) Email questions about item questions or setups are handled in a timely manner. If I don’t have the answer, I try to point someone to someplace that does. Even if it means sending them to a direct competitor of mine.

    6) Getting to the person in charge is pretty easy. I’m a very small company. Its my two boys, wife and a couple of girls at work that help get it all done. I was once called by a customer asking for the shipping department. I explained that "he had reached, shipping, receiving, accounting and upper level management, how can I help". After a good laugh we spoke about boats for about an hour.

    7) I offer a forum for ANYONE(even the competition) to learn and talk about the hobby we love.

    8) And the biggest one of all. I've used and tested "almost" every item I sell. BEFORE I sell them to customers. I don’t expect customers to send money to become Beta Testers for my products.

In closing, the most important thing to me is that we all have fun in this hobby! Life is short, lets enjoy it.

    Thanks for reading!

If only you would sell Zippy and Turnigy LiPos, there would be no need for any other stores at all!

I just recieved my second shipment from OSE in 2 weeks and each arrived in under 6 days, including weekends. Not bad considering the uphill route to Canada.

        Great service as usual.

I keep hearing about this mythical phone number for OSE, but have yet to track it down.

x2. Nothing else needs to be said except that OSE offers the best quality service to boaters in the US,Canada and the rest of the world. As their presence is seen on this great forum.

I love the fact that you are in Ct and I am in Vt... I usually get my order in two days...... absolutely the best service I have recieved from anywhere!! Thanks again Steve for everything. and I don't care where you get your stuff from.... no matter what you sell these days most of it ain't being made from here..... at least I know a small portion is staying in the States if I buy from you.... though with your great prices I know you can't be hanging onto to much $....

Agree with all the above. I come to you first when I need to buy parts. Your BIG competivitive advantage is QUICK SHIPPING. No one else comes close. When my "toy" breaks I want it fixed in time for the next weekend not waiting and waiting. Customer Service is top notch.

Lipo's are a tough one. If you had them for about 10 bucks more I would buy them from you just for the quicker shipping. I am guessing with the issures with liability etc. they are not a good deal for you. I haven't given it a lot of thought, but for me, I would pay an average of 10% to 20% more for a given product because of the service and shipping. In real terms you could sell an 100.00 esc from (China) for 120.00 and I would pay the extra 20 bucks for the service and speed.
Plus you have the shipping cost advantage compared to overseas.

I understand the challenges concerning offering every item that someone might want and I respectfully disagree with those stating that they would like to see OSE sell Turnigy and Zippy products. Now that being said, if a bunch of you want to put together a group buy, then I'm sure he may entertain, but it isn't always just the products themselves. You have to take into consideration that manufacturers relationship with other vendors as well as support for their products. You may be asking Steven to accept far more liability for a few sales here and there.

In my experience with Steven, we have all brought up different ideas on the forums regarding what OSE should carry. He has been very accommodating to serve his customers as a whole as well as carrying very specific parts for one group of modelers. Case and point, to my knowledge, no one else sold the water-cooled motor mounts (for outrunners mainly as well as inrunners) in the U.S. and Steven gladly made that happen for us. Now I see more and more of these mounts in pictures of boats on the forum. In another case, he has spent a great deal of time with manufacturers to provide props that are very hard to acquire anywhere else.

Bottom line is, the service that Steven provides through OSE not only captures the equipment to get started in FE boating, but also allows those individuals grow all the way up to full racing in the circuits with many of his products. At the same time, he tests everything he sells as a direct benefit to us, the consumer. Before many of you consider tossing out that he should carry everything in the world, take into careful consideration the fact that he may not want to carry certain items from manufacturers due to reliability and his investment to bring those products to OSE may far exceed the amount that he would ever be able to sell.

Since I got back into the hobby, Steven has provided patient advice and support for not only his products, but other competitors. Every order I've made has been prompt, correct, and the quality I come to expect from OSE.

Please understand I'm not bashing anyone's intentions, but simply want to address some of the elements at play when you suggest adding products to OSE. If you really want to see them on OSE, put together a group buy and offset his initial cost to bring those products to you.

Enough said. OSE is a great shop, great service, and you can be assured the items you buy will meet and exceed specs. Besides, who can beat this forum that brings us all together to share our ideas, thoughts, frustrations, and experience while having a great time in this hobby!

Well said Ben. I am constantly bringing in samples of new products and testing them. Very few pass muster. They just are not the quality or reliability that I wish to sell. A lot of those are now starting to turn up at Hobbyking.
