Where might one find some vinyl straps? Fabric store? Or did you just cut up some truck tie down straps?

I purchased 1" strapping in the fabric section at Wal-Mart. They sell it by the yard (If I recall correctly, it was 83 cents per yard).

I use foam, old boxes and build wood stands. Oh also use PVC pipe stands. I have a rack in the middle of my 4Runner with carpet on it to place the boats on for short trips. My trailer Has eye hooks on the shelfs that have bungees to hold the boats in place on long trips.

Right on.. thanks for all the input!

I opted for the PVC style & used some felt that was laying around the house (still need some velcro and straps though), things I wanted out of my stand:

          - Sturdy enough to just be tossed in back of the SUV.
          - Sturdy enough to allow one to work on the boat near the water.
          - Rack to hold my tackle box filled with RC goodies. (still need some velcro)
          - Protect the hardware from other crap in the trunk.
          - Able to be easily carried to the water. (still need straps).

Nice job MLJ. By-the-way ... did you have to purchase the 'Large Economy Size PVC Cement' to bond all those joints ???

              Thanks...

I used a rubber mallet to tap everything together and its surprisingly sturdy (3/4'' PVC). I did Pre-drill and insert screws in all of the vertical joints & am still considering adding some glue/screws to rest. I just don't know if its necessary...

So no economy size stuff yet however... I was considered a contractor for the day :)

My local hardware store had "contractor bags" for all the Tee's and 90's (instead of buying them separate) that saved a few bucks!

search the web for custom foam slab floatation and packing, phrase it like that. Many custom case companies will also tell you where to get anytype of bulk, round whatever type you need, just takes a few phone calls and some searching, i do it all the time.

on side note lowes and home depot have both closed (dense spongy) and open cell (floation) in the round long cyclinder types in various sizes, they are in the faucet and pipe iunsulation section. you can use these as others have said for transport stands or flotation inside your rig.
I just got done checking out the photos of the big ass boat you built. Any video of that thing running? More importantly, do I dare ask how much you have sunk into that thing? How fast is it?

For smaller hulls I use this case I made from a 450 heli case on a Coleman folding aluminum table. I can set the boats on the foam inside the cover to make adjustments.

I always build stands that have a prop guard on them so kids can't get to the prop but can see the whole boat. The stands have small rope handles to make them easier to carry.
