    Shockwave 36 Electric conversion

Ran 42mph with a Nitro to electric converted Shockwave 36. Pretty easy conversion. I was short on time so I didn't snap build progress. I did get some video last week. I left the radio box and all the wood stringers. Put in a "u" shape motor mount between the stringers. I ran a Kb45 10xl with a castle 240 and 6s lipo 5000mah with a graupner 42mm. The eagle tree recorded about 80 amps continuous. The motor motivated the boat very well. I cant wait to try it in a lighter electric hull.

Wow man nice numbers for such a heavy hull with few mods. Not to mention a lower cost setup:). I am taking the Jolly out this afternoon with the KB8xl and the K42 on 16 Ib3600s. I will have video & numbers this evening. Oh and I'll be swimming if things go south......lol.

how hot did the motor get from the 42mm prop? im looking into buying the 1000KV version for my SW36....right now im still doubting of the feigao will have enough power...ill use it anyway for now....and buy the KB later...

by the way, using the mount i currently have in the SW ( http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...?prod=cen-bj16 ) how much would i have to file out the holes so the KB will fit?

cant wait to see the vids of the SW36 as well as the jolly cat...

I had to enlarge the mount holes on the Jollys mount quite a bit to fit the KB. It looks like thay are almost the same a the 700 mount holes.. you can see the openings in the KB through the 700 pattern..but they need to be opened up quite a bit. I am on my way out to the bench now to finish mine up for this afternoon.

The holes are a tad larger than 700 spacing.

I didn't temp the motor. I misplaced my temp gun and lost my gps to the deep later in the afternoon.

During vacation I ran the sw36 with a x646 for a few straight-line passes. It was crazy fast, but I only took a couple of passes and didnt use a gps, I did temp the motor and it was 134. I would not recommend that setup for longer running than a minute.

Sucks you lost the GPS . I had the grim 40mm 3 blade on for the first test. I just put the k42 on and noticed that a k45 will be the biggest prop I can run. Clearence with the rudder stand off is the issue. Not really a big deal. How was the stability on the speed runs Steven? As to the mount holes. I just got finished enlarging them out. It didnt take much @ all. Steven did you grind a flat spot on the shaft of the KB? I was going to just dimple it and use some lock tight. I decided against that and busted out a stone bit.

Strange something bigger the 45 wont fit. Theres aways a x64 series or M5 or M6

Do you have a metal prop to test?

This is the recommended high dollar setup emailed to me by Joeseph.
Note the x447. Not sure what he modified.

My setup is for jolly now:

Motor: LMT 2250-8 with1480 KV (I suggest maybe more rpm)
              Controller: Schulze 32.170
              Cells: 24pcs
              Prop: X447 modified...
              Central of gravity: 237mm

              Speed: 115 km/h
              Current: 110 A

It is good for fun and I think more speed is dangerous for boat and cells...

Thanks for the setup:). Mine is way more mild. The strut as we know is not ajustable. So when they extended out the stuffing tube and added the stand off it left a fixed amout of space. I am positive I will be able to do what ever I want with all the props avalable today. I do have some metal props. I have 2 v9oo series I have a 440 3 balanced and sharpened..but it needs a slight hub mod to work. I have all the grim props, and i believe a 440 2 blade but it's raw. If I dont like the temps on the 42 i'll drop to the 40 or the grim 40mm 3. I am in the process of relearning the dpr setup. I will be running gps and dpr today. Back to work I go.

the drp or eagle tree tools are great. I love the ability to now whats going on. Sometimes its a data overload for me.

                    My setup for this eveing.

I agree. I really don't know how to apply the data yet. But it is great to have. I just finished up the internals in the Jolly for this eveing. The only thing I'm changing is temp probe #2 (yellow) is comming off the pack and going in the esc. Navibe is tucked up in the stern. I think I have flotation under control this time :). I will be without a rescue craft so I am keeping the boat shallow. Lucky for me the lake is waist deep for the first 50 to 75 feet out. I will have MrsSjfe to video for me also...But I think she more excited about the stop @ Ritas water ice along the way lol. Oh yeah she weighed in @ 7.8 pounds in the digital bathroom scale.

Steve and SFJE what was the budget like on your builds? New to lipos and those engines? Triying to keep it under $800.

After doing a little research it looks like a good combo...

Well the shockwave retails for about $350. I sold the nitro engine and shaftstart system for about $100. So I'm at 250 for the hull and hardware. The motor and hydra 240 retails for about $350. Lipos about cost me about $300.00

I got a nice used shockwave with everything for $126. So that might work price wise...

Did you find it was a solid combo, with decent run times and low heat?

                            Thanks Steve

So far I have about 12 or so runs on it. The setup is working well.
