Another thing I'm confused about is how you basically drive the prop?

On the nitro setup, we use a flex shaft.. and the shaft itself in the SW36 isn't very straight..

Are we still using the same flex shaft but adding a new coupler for the elec motors?

In my hull I did actually straighten my shaft a little bit to help prevent the shafts from breaking.. but its still not perfectly strait unfortunately.

Earlier today I sent an e-mail to OSE asking what parts I needed to convert my SW36, i really want to order ASAP.. I'm itchin to play! :)

      Steven,

What brand 6S lipos are you using?? Are you running 2x 3S in series or 2x 6S in parallel??

      Sounds like a cool rig!
Nothing like keeping you lipos warm and your prop wet!!

We use the same shaft with a electric coupler. The shaft is .187.

I used (1) 4s pack and (1) 2s pack in series. Not ideal, but its what I have for other stuff.

If I was to do it again I would go with a 1000kv motor and a hydra 120hv esc on 6s lipo

          So from what I gather...
          -KB-45XL 1000kv (11turn)
          -KB-45 water jacket
          -6mm to .187" coupler
          -Hydra120 or 240???
Steve...your very first post was using the Hydra240. Dropping to the 120, only thing I can see that's different is the max continuous current. Is this because of your battery config??? What's the resistance of the motor? For cost reasons, I already have 2x's 3s 5000mah. If I run those in series, in essence I'll have 23.4v with 10,000mah... Using the higher voltage I know I'll have less current, but if I ran the 11.7 config in parallel would my current exceed the Hydra120 rating??? I guess using the 240 makes the setup bullet proof and I guess I shouldn't nickel and dime out the build... Has anyone youtubed a test run of this build yet??? I'm very interested as my lake privelages have been revoked cause my nitro combustion bi-products were "contaminating the lake".... ya so either I ebay it or go brushless!!! HA... I'll take any and all thoughts advice on this conversion...just want to get it right instead of trial and error...
          Thanks!!!

If you run 3s packs @ 5000mah in series you will only have 6s 5000mah. You need to parallel a set of 6s 5000mah for 10K

stupid ohms law...sorry forgot my parralel laws this morning...duh...

more importantly what about the ESC choice??? Is it imperative to run the 240 on a 1000kv motor on 6s???

I am in the process of an electric conversion of the Shockwave 36.....My setup is gonna be the Turnigy sentilon 100A, water cooled with the kb45 1600kv and 6s Turnigy batts. The stock nitro engine turns 28k, i think, so I was wanting to go faster by upping the kv on the electric motor. Do you guys think this is a massive overkill?

I do not think the 100 amp esc is going to be enough
I ran a KB 45 1200kv on 6S with a 200 amp esc in a hydro and was drawing more than 100 amps
Using the 1600 on 6S will draw much more and be close to 40 000rpm
                  where the 1600 on 4S is 26 000rpm
                  and the 1200 on 6S is 30 000rpm

If the 1600KV motor is what you have try it on 4S2P or get the 1200KV and use 6S2P

OK thanks. I will try running it on 4s first and then go from there. Do you guys have any speed estimates with the 1600kv and 6s? I was trying to build a 3 foot rocket lol.

My Shockwave conversion runs pretty quick with a 2000kv on 4S.
These hulls would flip easy on 1600kv with 6S unless it was glass like water.
                      10000mah easy gives it 10-12mins.
Try to extend the flex and stuffing tube up to the front as mine took tons of water through the tube just using the stock flex.
Ours was quite noisy at first which turned out to be the crappy strut Proboat bearings.

Are you running your batteries in parallel to get that kind of 10000mAh?

I'm into speed more so than run time.......How much faster do you think your boat would be if you wired it up in series vs. parallel?

                              Obviously quicker,but wouldnt last long.
You dont run a 2000kv motor on 6S unless maybe its a saw rigger hull.
Motor, esc and batteries would overheat and burn out very quickly.
If i was going 6S on this boat i would pick a 1200kv motor.

Ok thanks. I'm new to the whole FE scene and just trying to grasp as much knowledge as I can about the technical aspects. I tried to program my Turnigy Sentilon 100a esc today and had some issues. I never got a beeping sound from motor and saw a flashing red light that kept blinking 2 blinks from the esc . The program card never lit up at all and was wondering if this is a esc problem or was the program card shot or both??? Hooked up the motor to a diff esc and it does beep so not a motor problem I don't think........
