I have blown up 3 Neu 2230 on my sf300 at saw events and it still works. That's why I think Rays 300 may have been on the way out. But, we will see how mine does on my motor. I will also bring my castle 160 with me to test as well. It's anybody's guess how many amps a boat set up is going to pull. My motor is only rated at 180 amps for constant running so I hope it's not too much of an amp hog.

The good thing about the 160 is I can go in and get a ruff guess on amps pulled.

Just wish they were a bit more waterproof
How do you know? the castles have no data recall.

Castle ESC's have had data logging since the Ice series was introduced. XLx has logging.

              thanks for the response Brian.

So the Mamba Monster 2 is a older ESC than the ones with data logging

Yes. It's based on the older Monster design. The Monster X has data logging.

This is from memory, the original Monster was from the same era as the original hydra design.

Hate to revive an old thread but I know if I start a new one I will get hammered. I recently picked up a telemetry radio that works with any of the Castle X series controllers. I have been running the 200 amp Castle Ice controllers in my boats with good success and wondered how you guys were making out the the Mamba XLX controller in the boats. I don't run saw so I am sure I won't be pushing them that hard.

Although I've never tried one I've seen people convert these to Water cooled esc's. It's board layout is the same as the Castle series like the XL-2 but it's a knock off. Sometimes these go on sale for less than $100.

I’ve seen some for sale that didn’t have caps added ,I’ll add them I just don’t know how to make sure they are correct if it’s really that close or can I over kill it and be safe?

So the mamba XL X’s are rated at 160amp? Figured they were same as the edge 200

I wouldn't bother with SkyRC version -- too many bad reviews with smoke. Concept looks good tho. Trackstar appears to be the more reliable version.

I've realized with these china/hobbyking controllers... even with the $200 ones is that there always is a "deficiency"... where they use cheap PCB/design, knock off/obsolete/used/old surplus Fets -- all to obtain maximum profits.

They have to make a controller for $100 and STILL be able to make a profit. It has to come from somewhere. Most modern brand name Fet chips cost as much as the controllers are being sold for.

Firmware is a whole other story. Bad firmware adds to the low performance... (unless its a clone of a brand).

BUT that doesn't mean we can't modify and improve them a bit to make them less prone to smoke. Gonna try flashing the firmware of some of my cheap controllers just to see if theres any improvement with using opensource firmware like BLHeli and SimonK.
