Finished up the radio box! I added a nose and tail piece to the box to help stiffen up the box and provide a ledge for the lid. I also added a rail on both sides for the lid and a piece of ply inside for the ESC to get strapped to. Epoxied all the seams of the hull and one last coat inside and out on the box. Just have to cut a Lexan lid. Time for final assembly!!

20160117_110601.jpgYes Blandon, I recoated the outside seams as well. The first boat had some minor leakage, and when it got inside the hulls, it caused the uncoated ply to degrade. I think it was about the 4th day of racing, and I made a hard right turn to avoid a collision, I tore the bottom skin off the left sponson from the stern, about two thirds up to the bow. One big chunk just peeled off. I then did some research, and Mr. Grimm, the designer had a little blog about how he sets his boats up for racing. He uses a heat gun I think to peel the top decks off, and reseals the inner hull too. The ply they use over seas is okay, but not as good as the National Balsa aircraft grade stuff, so that is what I reskinned with. I also use some half oz. glass cloth on the outer skins. The blue boat is built like a tank, a little heavy, but still competitive and will last for years! Not sure why I gave it to my brother, but he took 2nd high point for the season last year, and I got third dang it! This season I built a PX300, great kit, easy to build. I messed up the cowl it came with, so I am using a VS1 cowl for now.20160312_054452.jpgComment

Painting operations almost complete. Nothing too fancy just sanded the cowl with 600g, primed and 3 coats of yellow Krylon. Once I install my decals I'll hit it with 3 coats of clear.Attached FilesComment

All the wires and cables are sealed up where they come through the box, I modified the original servo mount plate and added a shelf to hold the receiver to keep it off the floor of the box, the esc is held down with Velcro and then strapped in place, water lines routed, and everything is programmed and ready to test! With everything finished and cowl installed the balance point is 7 7/8" from transom forward.Comment

Thanks for checking in. The boat is dialed in nice right now. I have to get a couple finished pics and talk the wife into coming to the pond to shoot some video. The hull handles Awesome!! It corners really nice and is very stable. My first run I had a little water getting into the radio box and finally figured out it was coming in from one of the seams on the bottom of the hull so I just took some time and went over every seam on the hull with West Systems and the next time out it was bone dry.Comment

Little update on the tunnel, I added a couple finished pics. With the Turnigy 120a esc it has a small waterproof switch so what I did was use esc mounting tape and mounted it at the rear of my radio box lid. I then drilled a 3/4 hole in the lid so I can use an Aeromarine radio box plug so I can tape everything down with the battery plugged in and when I get to the pond I just remove the plug and can reach the switch and pop the plug back in so I'm water tight. I ended up ordering another cowl because I screwed up the clear coat pretty bad on the first one so I painted and cleared another and it came out nice. Clear can be damn tricky especially when trying to rush the paint job!! I have about 6 packs through the boat and have it handling really nice right now!Comment
