    Project: Mono

    Here we go!

This is a DF35 that I'll be building up over the winter.

The Coremat will suck up a lot of resin, which in turn adds weight..... so choose carefully where you use it.
Are you doing it all at once, wet on wet?

I'm just going to do some ribs on the deck and hatch. I'm going back and forth if I want to Coremat the seams or just use CF.

Joel, when you say wet on wet do you mean while the coremat is wet lay the CF over it? Or wet the hull then put wetted Coremat on it the wetted surface?

Jeff, it's best if you do it all at once. Have your Coremat and carbon fiber cut to length ready to go. Lay the mat out on some wax paper and soak it with resin on both sides. I like to squeegee the excess out. Wet the inside of the hull, place your mat and layer your carbon fiber. Use good rollers and brushes. You can give me a call if you have any questions too.

                    Thanks Joel!

Yeah this is all going to be laid in the hull in one sitting (hopefully tomorrow). I'm still cutting out patterns but at least I got the entire hull prepped earlier today, so tomorrow I can just focus on doing all the resin work.

Well I just finished doing 2 layers of CF and 2 small strips of coremat, wet on wet. It's curing now and I'll post some pics later this evening. Here or some of the rollers and brushes I attached some sticks to so I could reach all the way to the front.

Here it is drying next to a space heater set on low to help speed up the curing process.

Ok here are some pics. It's still a little wet and shiny, but I am pleased with the results so far. I still have to do the hatch which will need a little more work, because the center edges are almost over the hull it self so even with screwing the hatch down there won't be a good water tight seal. So I'm going to build it up a little with marine RX then lay some coremat down, then do the CF over that. After that I'll be blueprinting the hull because it has some hook to it.

Jeff, thats looking good... what is the advantage to doing the coremat along with the cf. Does it add that much more rigidity/strength ? DJ
