Here is a few pics this morning after sitting in the booth at 87 degree. And it will go back in until tomorrow morning. Then I'll tape off some designs for the red. So far so good.
FYI this is water based paint. But I always finish with a urethane clear and that won't be sprayed in my house.

Looks great! Is there anything you can do to even out that hatch line? That's really the only thing standing out. Could potentially be more difficult to apply sealing tape.Comment

Wow you noticed the biggest headache of this build so far. I've tried so hard to get that to lay flat, it used to be a lot worse. The good news is I installed 4 hatch bolts and when I tighten those down it drops that hump below the hull line. I'm also running a piece of black foam along the hatch so it seals up nice when it's screwed down and of course I'll be using hatch tape as a backup.Michigan Fast Electric SAW Club

That's good you figured it out. I had the same issue at some point, what I did was put weight on the hatch overnight, that nearly fixed the issue. But if yours looks alright when bolted down, then no need for that. What speed are you trying to achieve? Looks like it'll easily hit some high numbers.Comment

Yeah I've left 30lbs on it for 2 weeks and it knocked it down pretty good but then when I did the CF it popped back up a bit. I'm a perfectionist or at least I try to be and that damn hatch has made me loose countless hours of sleep dwelling on it
My speed goal is 85+mph.Michigan Fast Electric SAW Club

I know exactly what you mean. I'm the same way, it drives me nuts when something isn't perfect and it's not even your fault. I'm dealing with similar issues on my genesis, that hatch line is the worst i've ever seen. 85+ mph should be no problem with that motor!Comment

I think I have enough motor, but keeping it running smooth on the water will be the tricky part.Michigan Fast Electric SAW Club

It is not because it is a lehner motor that you can do with it whatever you want :) Lehner motor are 2 pole motors and have less torque than the same
size 4 pole leopard/TP/neu/.... motor. They are just the best motors for running extreme rpm. For most normal applications they are not better than
4 (or higher) pole motors. I would never buy a lehner motor again for normal sport running. Most people just don't reach the area where the lehner motor have their advantage... If you want to spend some serious money on a motor, rather buy a 4 pole neu than a 2 pole lehner. Neu motor have their comfort zone just where most people need it which is mostly running around on the lake and not running 90mph at 40.000 rpm ++ .
For running 85mph with a 35' mono you will need some rpm. Most difficult will be to keep that boat on the water. Most of my mono's start getting very nervous on the water once you hit 70-80mph. Those are larger mono's, 39' and 45'. Good luck! I will follow this threadComment

Just saying because I often hear: I have a lehner motor so everything is going to be fine, that thing has plenty of power... Actually, that thing has less power than the same size TP/leo/neu motor. Lehner motors are made the way they are, not to give maximum power but to deliver performance in extreme rpm conditions, like in saw. That is the reason why almost everyone who competes in SAW uses a lehner motor. Special designed rotors and the 2 pole design give them the advantage over all the others motors. BUT for normal running you can use the torque of a 4/6/8 pole motor. That is why for oval racing or just for running around on your lake you can beter use a TP/Leo/neu/scorpion/... Those motor have a larger ''working'' area than a lehner motor. I am absolutely not saying Lehners motor are bad motors! They are just not made for the normal ''rc-boat-guy'' if you know what I mean.
On a windless day in spring you could give your 85mph goal a shot!Comment

This is one AWESOME BUILD!!!! I am thinking of building the same boat for NAMBA (lap racing -P Mono). I am fooling around with a Pursuit. If the Pursuit makes me pull my hair out, I will be ordering a DF35.
Great job on the build and please keep posting the progress.Comment
