So I got that rudder deal done while waiting for things to cure. Things such as 2 more layers of cloth on the capsule that were to be wrapped onto the underside of the lid

Then the formed and jointed support rails

And the bottom sheet of 3/32" birch ply

      And finally......... THE LOOK

I still have some trimming and such to do as well as seal the ply top and bottom. I also need to smooth the capsule as it received some drips that came through. It needed more help anyway.

Thank you. This was a bit of a different take for me. It is SOLID though, you can't twist it or anything. And not too heavy either.

Thanks, it is getting there. I will have a 3/8"X3/8" foam seal squeezed in there between the hatch and the opening lip.

Loving everything you have done so far! Creativity and resourcefulness make a build interesting and inspiring.
That FG work and how the hatch is sandwiched... looks great but to me, more importantly: also looks fun!
Too many boats, not enough time...

Thanks guys, I managed to get my hatch hold down tabs on and the ply has a light coat of epoxy on it right now.

I love how this things turning out! The table saw was an excellent idea for fitting the carbon fiber steering arm and the look is perfect. A pair of those adjustable tie rod end arms you showed me would really complete the look and give you perfect steering. In a pinch I have used a circular saw to cut aluminum sheet. The thin stuff I would rubber cement to some plywood, it actually left a really clean edge. Your thinking way outside the box on this one. I really the scale the cockpit to the size of the boat, looks menacing. The hatch looks ready to handle any high speeds crashes, great ideas everywhere on that hatch build.
I look forward to see where your going next with the build, i keep checking the mail seeing if the struts have arrived for fit/welding. I wonder how fast one these hulls will actually go? I think we're going to find out!

Thanks Chris, I have been so 'work busy'. All I have been doing on this is an ALMOST daily 1/2-3/4hr on this. But I keep plucking away. It is good for all the minor bits of epoxy work this hatch has taken.

I got my 'pins' installed in the front section of the hatch and when I slipped the hatch on it had wings on the front corners. I guess the hatch should have a little more convex than anticipated.

At first I epoxied some extra ply under the lip and was going to sand the 'wings' out. But then I thought of putting a cut under the ply through the framework far enough across the front and down the side to facilitate the relief necessary to have the lid match. You can still see the cut on the front under the lip here:

Sorry I did not get a pre-epoxy shot of that. But here it is after everything cured

While in the process of all the ongoing hatch work I made a couple of 4mm CF bars to glue under the deck above the motors for my ESC's. What I am using is some of the gas guys hatch hold downs

So those hold the back side of the elastic and keepers and then I installed the other keepers into the lip of the hatch/deck and voila:

And with the ESC installed, It worked too well not to do.

And should these FighterCat ESC's fail custom watercooled Castle 240 ICE's will fit nicely
