I just put mine on heavy (White Only NO Clear ) and let it sit for about 10 days and then wet sanded it up to 5000 grit wet/dry,(Started with 800 wet) then polished it to a high gloss shine !! Also Rustoleum stays soft forever !
not if you use light coats !!!!!

Ken, I sprayed a Prather Hull with Rustoleum few years ago with White and Gloss Clear and it did not yellow at all ! It did take about 5 Months to really harden up, I wet sanded the heck out of it and that came out like glass just like the Duplicolor Gloss White without Clear. I agree that a 2 Part system is the best other than having an Auto body Shop do it which is the cats ass, I had one done by a local Body Shop and it was the most durable paint job I ever witnessed ! Always test clear on a scrap using same paint used for the project its good security just in case something don't wanna jive including any primers ! Good Luck Ken ! Boat looks Great !!

I can't believe Walmart wants that much. It is $24+change up here in Canada at the auto paint supplier.

          Any paint experts here?

While wet sanding, I'm noticing areas of pinholes in the paint. Very noticeable if I hold a flashlight across the surface. In some areas wet sanding seems to eliminate them but other areas not so much. They were not there in the gelcoat and did not notice them after primer but I may not have looked that close.

I have run into this before. I think it is from tiny bubbles in the paint when sprayed. Not sure if it is contaminants or not but it is a PITA to get rid of. Spray, sand, spray, sand. I have even played with a pin in the wet paint on the surface to get of them.

That is what I read, air bubbles, and not easy to get rid of them. Not sure how much sanding I need to do, and hoping it does not take me back to the primer, and they do not lead to something else.

I had the same problem with Dumas and Prather Hulls, Prather did not use Gelcoat on there hulls (at least the 40" Deep Vee) but Dumas did and I had to use a filler on the pin holes. I noticed after putting down the Primer before the paint ! I never saw any pinholes in the Duplicolor Paint that I always used, I used the White Primer not the Gray so not sure if that mattered or not ? My paint looks pretty flawless on my hulls no sign of any kind of pinholes. I painted 4 hulls and all 4 look fine not sure what the pinholes would be from ? I also made sure the paint cans were new stock, had problems years ago with an old batch of paint on a shelf for a long time !

I wrote to Duplicolor about pinholes...
                  Hello,
I am painting a gelcoat surface. I sanded, applied DAP189 white primer, sanded, applied DA1670 White Gloss. After applying White Gloss I noticed pinholes. After waiting a week I need to mask some parts and paint with DA1600 Gloss Black and then with a clear coat. Is there anything that can be done about the pinholes?
                  Duplicolor response...
                  Ken,
Thanks for taking the time to contact Dupli-Color.
Pinholes need to be sanded smooth prior to applying more paint. Otherwise, you may see them.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.

                  Best Regards,

Nice Answer !? We could have figured that out ! Neighbor just painted his Genisis 1400 Hull and it came out really good, he used Enamel Duplicolor Red and cant find any pinholes, he did not use any Primer, and he is not very patient, sanded, painted, and sprayed today 88% humidity (Raining !) !! Waiting to see the hull in a few days to see what may pop up !

That's my problem, I'm being to cautious about painting, warm weather, little humidity. Try to do things by the book and look what it gets me, lol.

Maybe scuff it and re spray with a different batch (after using a filler on the pin holes of coarse) I use squadron filler and seems to work pretty good. Wait at least a week to 10 days before you re-spray or longer ! Few years ago I sprayed a fiber-glass fuselage and re-sprayed to soon (3 Days) and it became a mess ! Don't think it was Dup though ? Did you use any heat on it when done, like a hair dryer ?

If I sand and spray, the sprayed paint is to thin to fill the holes and they still show. I'm spraying the white paint into a cup and applying it to the pinhole area with a brush. The paint thickens in the cup as the solvent evaporates so it goes on thicker which allows me to use it as a filler. I then wet sand it again with 400 and it looks great so far. I shine an LED flashlight parallel to the surface to check for imperfections. Too cold to spray anyway so I need to wait for a warm day which gives it time to gas off until I get that warm day. No heat, just ambient temp inside the house to let it all dry.

The Black and Red Dup looks really good together, will look Awesome on that Hull ! I used to hang with the Jaws Racing guys back in the day we all hung at Jenkinsons, ran a Cat Hull. Followed US Offshore all over, Ozark's were the best, until my buddy JT was killed racing a 46' Skater in the Keys in 2011 (Super Boat Championships), very sad day !! I bought a Condo from JT back in 2003 out there and sold it after he was gone. Dorsey Schroeder from the Ozark's bought the Jaws Boat and converted it to Pleasure, and then of coarse over powered it ! He was another awesome guy to hang with, The Good'ol Days !! Sorry got of Subject ! I like that KAAMA Scheme a lot, cant wait to see it done !!
