Thanks livewire, that is what I thought. What is the approximate range of a 2.4ghz system, any idea?

Range is higher than what you can see with your bare eye, so far I tested 500m which is 1500ft. This year I may try to go further as I have a bigger boat

Stuffing tubes now wrapped in carbon.
Hopefully in the next few days I will properly fix the motors, stuffing tubes etc in place.
All connections for the motor & esc are now soldered. I feel I have done the majority of this build now (apart from paint)Stuffing tubes wrapped.jpg

            Hi Kent,

Do I need to bend the stuffing tubes?
Everything seems to line up ok without, maybe I am doing something wrong.
Do the stuffing tubes have to pass though both "walls" of carbon fiber in the hull by the prop shafts?
At the moment the bend in the flex cable is taken up between the stuffing tube and the prop shaft - is this wrong?
I am thinking I have made a mistake somwhere, can someone please enlighten me?

            Tom

Well, usually there's a slight curve in the stuffing between the motor end and the drive

Some time the tube enters the end of the drives and lock in. Then some Teflon usually expands and almost hit the bearing. I guess if you don't need a bend it's cool, but makes me wonder how you got away with that? And where the drives are mounted...

                  +1 on Kents advice.

A slight bend is normal and what I would always recommend. To go 100% straight with the tube and have the "bend" just between transom and first bearings is not optimal in my eyes. I assume you have the motor mounts already glued in or just tacked in with some CY?

If already glued in might try if it works for you, if not maybe redo that a little. With negative drives it might be componsated a little.

                  regards,
                  Manuel

Installed the internal cover plate now, getting closer to being complete.
Hoping to get the radio system from Manuel in the next few days, then time for amaiden before paint!040520141230.jpg040520141231.jpg040520141232.jpg

Looking really good. Be careful that no connectors or solder points from the esc touch any carbon. Could make a nasty spark. I feel the top plate is a little far forward, making the steering cables long. No right or wrong I guess, as long as it works :-) good luck with the maiden run. She should be awesome.

                        Hi Kent,
Thank you for your comment. Yes you are correct the top plate is a bit far forward, problem is I cant make the ESC cables that go to the battery come out of the side easily unless the plate is in this position. The only way to get round it would to be lengthen the cables. It should be ok though, but I agree it would be better slightly further back.
Still remaining is, holes for water outlets, re-assemble the prop shafts, plumb up the cooling pipework, fix the antenna and fix battery trays.
I will give the boat a couple of runs before paint.
Already thinking of doing a HPR 135. Might want to sell this hull to fund a HPR 135 when finished if anyone interested?

That's funny!! already selling before you even done. HPR135 are awesome (although I've never had one) but I have been having a lot of fun with my own 115 lately, you might even like this one and not wanting to sell LOL. I'm getting close to 90mph at the moment, and that's plenty fast for my little pond. My setup is a lot smaller than yours also :)

SAM_0326.jpgBeen a long time since my last post I know.
Almost finished now, just a few final things to do.
Can someone help with a small problem?
What is the normal way to connect the rudder steering arm?
The S/S "O" joint has a different larger size hole to the hole in the black rudder arm.
What should I do here? Should I drill out both holes and fix a 3mm bolt through both? I tried fitting a swivel joint but it is too long to allow full movement of the rudder.
What is the correct way of connecting this joint?
2-3 weeks time I'm hoping for a maiden run in the local pool to check for leaks. I will post a video soon hopefully!
Also is it ok to run my Futaba Receiver and steering servo from a 7.2 volt power supply?
                            Thanks for any help guys.

Managed to solve the problem of connecting the rudder, in the end I tapped a M3 thread in the black rudder arm and drilled a 3mm hole in the S/S "O" joint. A couple of washers and a nylock nut and it seems to work very well now.
I finally connected the receiver batteries up and got the servo moving, really getting close to be able to run the boat now.
Found a small problem though, if I mount the receiver under the carbon plate the antenna wire is to short to go up the antenna tube at the back of the boat!
Can I just extend the wire by soldering some copper wire on? How do people normally get over this problem?
                              Will post some photos soon.

Don't mess with the receiver wire. From what I heard and seen, it never really works the same way if it's cut or extended. I would come up with a different solution instead. What receiver are you using? I know with futaba all you need is just the tip sticking out and you will get perfect reception, but with spektrum it needs to be like 5 inches high to be practical. I mount my receiver inside of the waterproof traxxas box and place it behind the servo, so far it's worked very well and it's out of sight.
