Ohhh...its not the pretiest of mods done and I really had to stretch it out to get the batts up front for the wieght but it works. I will try and get a picture.

Been awhile. I've been photo documenting the build as I go, but just haven't had time to post. I actually raced this boat Sunday!

Was looking for a simple, replaceable, 1pc seal for the rudder that didn't require any glue. Found this pushrod seal (traxxas villain I think) that fits the speedmaster rudder hole perfectly. I sized the hole in the transom to fit tightly with the rest of the seal. We'll give it a try and see what happens.

Rudder and strut mounted. Only used (2) screws on the rudder.

Made an alignment tool on the lathe. Slip fits into the brass tube and fits into the collet.

I need to get the correct rudder mount. I have the opposite side (should have the brass breakaway screw on the bottom).

Stuffing tube glued in. Learning that 'less is more' here.

Decided to go back to mounting servos in the tub wall again. Forgot why I stopped doing that in boats, but I'm sure I'll remember soon! Managed to trace this one pretty well. Fits nice.

Yes, that's a TRAXXAS! Lol! I've had every other servo in the sun fail, but these water proof high torque jobbies do pretty well.

BTW - There are RC car servo mount backings behind the cloth to thread into.

Used 3mm machinable rod (I think it's 1215 steel??). Anyways, it's threadable without a die made out of DIAMOND!

Used an aluminum ball stud from one of my pancars on the rudder side. Hopefully this won't snap.

Had to step the stuffing tube diameter down to match the strut bushing size. I am running 0.187" with a teflon liner.

Made the turn fin and mount out of 6061. Mounted the fin. This actually took a lot more time that I thought it would. Had to make sure the fin mount was square. I set a level across each sponson bottom and matched it to that angle. 4mm bolts. Drilled and tapped into the aluminum.

                  Gotta go. Redwings back on!!!!!

Pete, is that 9/32" brass tube through the hull? How much 1/4" brass tube.... Oh wait, I forgot your using Teflon tubing. I would ditch that Teflon if I were you... Just my $0.02 worth.

Good job on Sunday! That thing will be class of the field soon.

                    Later,
                    Ball

Like the servo mount in the wall, those engine well are plenty strong. the traxxass seals are great too just require a 3/8 hole and pull thru, I have used them on my boats.

Thanks Guys. I hope it will be competitive this year. I gotta get the CG figured out.

Here was the maiden run that Bob filmed (X442, slow and stable): http://youtu.be/Ja4cAWrO52w

Mike - Lol! I thought you might comment on the Teflon. I've had it in every boat except for (1). It's just always worked for me.....seals well and I seem to get away with lighter oil. No doubt, it IS an extra thing to go wrong. I've just always hated the loose fit of the 1/4" brass and 0.187" cable.

I was talking to Jimmy about teflon on Sunday and how to restrain it by CA-ing the first 1/2" into the stuffing tube (sanded both the Teflon and the brass prior). Here's a pic....

Here are a couple pics with batteries. The protech straps really work well to hold the cells.

Speaking of batts, so far I am liking these 'pulse ultra' cells. The heli guys seem to like them too, and they were avail at the prop shop, so I figured I'd give 'em a crank. So far, so good....and my reference is a pair of hyperion's!

Been way too long since the last update. I've been taking photos along the way....

Made this contraption to hold the boat while I painted. The vice holds the rod and allows for rotation. The second C-clamp is a safety incase the vice ever lets go. 20130603_203957.jpg

I used Klasscote per Mike's suggestion. Couldn't be happier.

                                1st coat of primer....
