        Turbine Exhaust

A quick trip to the drugstore yielded this cool turbine exhaust pipe. It only cost me 99¢, but I had to dump all the perfume overboard before I could use it. It still needs some trimming to get it at the appropriate angle and location, but you get the idea. And yes, it will get a wing on the back, just for looks.

One nice thing about Randy's sub-hatch arrangement is it allows you to open up the turbine air intake.

In case you did not know, Randy makes a piston-style cowl to go with this hull as well. You could build and paint the hull and paint both cowls, then run whichever cowl you wanted. They are 100% interchangable.

I'm going to the pond this morning for the final round of testing on Prototype #1. My plan is to add some weight in the front of the boat to see what happens if I move the balance point further forward. The results will impact the final layout of Prototype #2.

After today's testing, Prototype #1 will be de-commissioned, de-motored, cleaned up, and sold to Mike sans motor, ESC, and Rx. I'll help mike with the painting and final setup of his new hull.

I will probably start throwing epoxy at Prototype #2 this afternoon or tomorrow. Photos to follow.

              Dr Jet,

Im getting ready to put my motor mount in and get the drive tube in also on mine. Just curious on what you think is an appropriate motor offset for this boat? I was thinking about 1/4" at the motor?

Also I have an 1/8" Propshaft for this boat and the 2 Hydromites Im building. All will use same motors/esc's/batts. What size prop would the good Dr recommend? Or plastic prop range?

Im looking to order some Octura stuff soon.

The Graupner K29 seems to work well. I've used a D/T X431P cut to 28 mm as well

That is exactly the amount I offset Prototype #2. We shall see how it works.

I will try to waterproof the frames tonight, and maybe tomorrow I will add the CF mat to the floor and install the frame.

Aside: Wow! Over 5,100 hits. This is now the most viewed thread in this particular forum.

When this build is over I have a couple of other ideas in the works. The quick and easy one will be the Totally Evil Micro Hydro (1112/1.5D, 2S2P 2500s - 30C) and the other will simply be referred to as "Secret Project X-5". Details will come out on this one over the winter. Ocean Racer has heard about it, but I will have to kill him if he discloses any information prior to removing the veil of secrecy.

I may have some extra in my vast inventory. Let me see how much I have left over after this and the Totally Evil Hydro, and maybe I can put together a package for you and maybe Sneasle as well if he needs some. Buying it by the yard is a bit expensive, and these little boats don't need much.

sounds good, I can snag some of the short pieces of the stuffing tube at the same time....

I think I may have a couple of those left as well. I'll let you know.

ya, I could probably use some. I was planning on using some 2" wide fiberglass strips I have for joining airplane wings.

Dr. J, I got the frames in today. I test fit a set together and I noticed something. The long side lengths and the center cross brace fit together well. The motor box went together relatively easily. The front T- Brace went together easily as well. That leaves two pieces, which I assume one is a transom doubler that connects to the long length that is left that plugs into the center cross brace some how.

I think I see the slot that was cut for it to plug into, but that slot is directly underneath the hole for the cf tube, which the slot on the transom double is offset by 1/4" or so....
