Looks like I have to order another hull or two from Randy.

One problem I need to resolve on prototype #1 is the turn fin. The angle I used on the prototype is too soft and it bends easily. I can see it breaking off before too long.

Joe, any word on turn fins? I need to buy a few.

Can you post a photo of your current turn fin? I will use a that as a base size for a new one.

          Joe,

A turn fin based on your existing rudder would work fine. I would sharpen it (outside edge only), shorten it a bit to the length in the photo (eyeballed), and put a bend in it. I would mount the bracket so that the slot was vertical.

I would gladly order one to "Test" along with a second one and rudder for my ah....second hull

              The BIG DEAL

I am going to build another BBY MTH, this time a bit more aesthetically pleasing one. I sold my unbuilt hull to Dan (dostacos), and Mike (Tophall) will buy prototype #1 for the cost of materials, so I need to order another hull. The problem with ordering one of any of the individual pieces to build this boat is the shipping. It is nearly 50% of the cost of one hull to ship it. My guess is shipping on several hulls will not be much more than shipping on one. I’ll check with Randy, but I imagine that will be the case.

Shipping on the other bits is pricey too. The MHZ parts are small and several complete assemblies will fit in a small envelope or box. MHZ has a minimum shipping charge and it is more cost-effective to spread it out over several assemblies. Same goes for the laser-cutting and shipping: More is cheaper. And you know me, cheap is my middle name.

So here’s the deal: I’m thinking I may order 10 (or more) of everything (motor/ESC/servo/motor coupler/stuffing tube/drive shaft/props/bearing/hull/rudder/turn fin/Dual-Lock/laser-cut frames) if there are 9 people that would want the remaining kits. Just add foam, glue, your radio and paint. This would reduce the shipping costs on everything, but there would be an additional shipping charge to send the assembled kits to the ultimate end user. I don’t have an exact price for the assemblies, but it will be less than a decent N-2 ESC. My goal is not to make a profit on this, just to get more SSSH racers out there to stimulate this class of CHEAP racing.

Who wants a complete SSSH kit?

Dr Jet. you are a Baaaaaaaad man and a horrible influence my hat is off to you for all your help and research to set up these boats let's hear it for Dr. Jet and his recon for all of us

with some effort I managed to locate all the parts on MHZ { they are scattered around} and ordered them and found the bearings and ordered those as well. my rudder arrived today so now all I need is the tube for the drive shaft

I cannot wait to get this thing in the water thanks for the deal

for all ya'all out there this will be a great deal, running down all the parts is worth the price of admission, and his laser cut frame is also well worth it, motor mount, shaft control and the change in how rigid the boat is is unbelievable

                  Dan, et. al.,

I have some free time this afternoon, I'll cut as many stuffing tubes as stock will permit. I can probably find the same place where I bought these and order more if necessary.

                    I have contacted Manny off line, I know he is interested as well so I will buy 2 and give him one {that will save us shipping }

Randy contacted me today and I will build my grey hull with his stuff complete and your white hull as you describe

I will be showing the hull and your frame etc to the Hansen Dam Irregulars and see if any are interested in going fast and turning right

Here is what I have right now: I have one unassembled frame set with a stuffing tube; I have your stuffing tube; I have my stuffing tube for prototype #2; and I have eight more stuffing tubes. I'll see if I can find more of the particular-sized tubes.

I like the idea of building one Randy's way (flex-shaft/wire drive - same motor) and building a straight-shaft one and comparing the differences/similarities.

                        Hey DOC!

I need a coupler that goes from the Chinese out runner 2.26MM to the BBY shaft that looks to be 1/8" any thoughts?

Here are some snap shots of my turn fin design. I desided to go with a single bolt holding the bracket to the hull and a single bolt holding the fin to the bracket. This will give it adjustability and let it rotate out of the way if something is hit. The blade length is about 1" long from under the bracket or 1 1/2" oal. What do you think?

well I would think a double to hold it to the hull BUT since I have yet to drive one of these my opinion AND 89 cents will get you a large coffee at 7/11 {but you do need to bring your own cup} I am also more than willing to try it out as designed. Oh and I love the rudder you sent, very nice work

                              Joe,

It looks good, but I would add about 1/4" to the length for the first run of fins. That is what I'm using right now. I have found it easy to cut some excess length off, but I have yet to figure out how to cut some on.

                              Dos,

Take one of the MHZ couplers and ream one end out to 1/8" (I think I have a 1/8" reamer somewhere). Another option is to have jeff Wholt make you one, and drill the motor hole with a #93 drill (I think it is #93, I'll have to double-check the number). I have a 2.3 mm (0.0905") reamer that I can use ream the drilled hole to fit the motor. Jeff made the couplers for my Micro Scat Cat in just that fashion.

                                All,

I'm going to do one last round of testing, experimenting with moving the balance point forward to see what happens when I get some more weight off the prop. Once I am happy with the prop depth, I will order more laser-cut frames. I have revised the drawings with an offset motor and pulled the propeller up by 1/16". I can get three sets on a single sheet of plywood, so I think I'll order a total of 9 sets. I'll get one, Crash Walker (another of the original SLOBS) will probably want one, that will leave 7 sets. I just happen to have 9 stuffing tubes so it all works out.

Who wants a set of frames? I'll gladly trade for parts such as a couple of turn fins or the like (hint, hint )
