I'll have to see what the laser guy charges me before I come up with the final price. Based on prototype#1, it should be about $25, including shipping and the CF stuffing tube.

As I recall, I had to do a bunch of research to find a suitable stuffing tube with a 5 mm I.D. I finally found one that was close, but some sanding on the I.D. (just a couple of thousandths) was still required to get the bearing to fit.

I've gone back through my receipts and found the place where I bought them. If push comes to shove, I can get a bunch more of these things. In other words, there is a lifetime supply of raw materials to build a fleet of SSSH racers.

I came home to a funny shaped package on the porch. inside were 2 tubes and an unbuilt frame

I have slotted the hull for the tube, and am waiting for the bearings and all the other goodies, meanwhile I am making a mess shaping down foam for both boats

Should I coat the frame with something {epoxy, west marine systems, varnish }? then glue it in? glue it in then coat it

I use epoxy from DMC, but the West Systems will be just as good in this application. I don't like the WS as much for making airplanes, because it is a bit soft. Varnish would work as well. Seal the wood before you put the frames in.

Who wants a set of frames? I'll gladly trade for parts such as a couple of turn fins or the like (hint, hint )
I think we can strike a deal here.

well I would think a double to hold it to the hull BUT since I have yet to drive one of these my opinion AND 89 cents will get you a large coffee at 7/11 {but you do need to bring your own cup} I am also more than willing to try it out as designed. Oh and I love the rudder you sent, very nice work

              Dan
The original draft had 2 bolts holding the turn fin bracket to the hull and with a bunch of head scratching I decided to go with 1 instead. The issue that comes up is that folks will want to try different angles with their turn fins and using 2 bolts makes any changes difficult and messy.

What do you say to using a blind nut on the inside of the hull to hold the turn fin on? I do this on all my hulls now. No more having to hold onto an unreachable nut buried inside the hull.

Great! Let me know when turn fins are ready. I hope to do my final testing this weekend, and possibly send the drawings to the laser guy next week.

Obviously that will not work on #1, but #2 will get a blind nut before it is assembled.

Here in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the city has recently built a pond specifically for RC boats. Unfortunately, it is only the size of a football field. Small boats, therefore, are popular here.
Here are a couple of photos of my Gecko with carrying case. I agree: the Gecko is an absolute riot!
The case is from a 3/8" Dewalt drill. The graphics of the boat, BTW, are of the New Mexico flag.

That sounds like the perfect opportunity to organize SSSH racing!

graphics are great the case is a very good use of something else.

as for the pond, is it long an narrow? or is it wider than a football field?

                          sounds like a great pond

There has been some talk of doing something just like this. I just recently purchased some water skiing buoys for course markers. I think eventually it will happen. It's just a matter of getting the FE fans all on the same page.

The Pond here is approximately 300' x 175', although the shape is irregular.

Well, I only managed to run the MTH one time. Low Tx batteries.

I did find out what I wanted to know. The ride is easy to adjust with the battery placement. I'm going to cut the frames with the slightly raised prop. The next hull will use built-up edges on the sponsons, not ride pads; so the net change in the sponson bottom/prop depth relationship will be only about thirty thousandths.

Time to start ordering more hulls and frames. I'll send the drawings to the laser guy tonight.
