@Randy. One photo Ive found shows them as a ~1" wide ride surface that acts as a turn fin at low speed.

      @twissted.

mine is currently a twin pusher prop amphibious aircraft................

Moving pads forward (shortening sponsons) and leaving the weight where it is now would mean more weight on the prop, and make the current cg setting a higher percentage number of the afterplane...(eg. say 30% of afterplane rather than 20%) the actual physical position of the cg would not change. Im pretty sure the only way to change the actual cg of the boat is to move the weight around.
The pendulum effect my freind spoke of is harder for me to explain... Imagine a plank of wood with a pivot point in the center....Equal leverage on both ends, this would rock easily with little force on either end. (like the boat) A plank of wood with pivot point at 3/4 of its length wouldnt rock at all, and would take more force (lift) to move and hold the heavy end up.... shorter sponsons would effectively move the "pivot point" of the boat. That make sense? Might need to draw a picture.... :-)
        Im confused..... no...wait...mabee im not?

I think you think way too much !
shortened sponsons wont alter cg .... but it does make a weight distribution shift between the riding surfaces.

Weight at sponson ride pads Vs weight on strut is the key for stability at speed here.
Downforce at nose will reduce weight on struts... bum goes up, nose goes down.. level flight

watch and learn ( burn and learn ! )

Am trimming a 2L ( 1/2 USGal ) coke plastic bottle for a temp drivers capsule shape for attach the nose for this weekend.
          A 'duck deflector' haha

Doc, are you also going to use the wing on the rear?
Never mind just saw a pic of Spirit Of Texas boat and noticed it didn't have the wing.

The bubble at front is 1/2 a large coke bottle !
Will suffice as temp driver's capsule shape for this weekend's trials

What is the inclination on the front sponsons? I will check mine on my boat but I think it is around .5 degrees.

Floatation and lock down screw on the norm for me these days. LOL Been there, done that! And don't try to tape a GPS to the exterior of the boat.It won't make the flip

Today's fun watching him trying to locate the cowl in 9' depth with a 8' pole wielded by a 5'10" fellow was most comical.

Appears I may get back to submarine dsrv days and prepare one for any future sinkings..there's a few lids and complete boats on bottom at various venues that are worthy for salvage

                          0130, time for Zzzzzzzzzzzzz.
                          ciao

                            Dr,

Take a look at this motor; the world smallest V12:

It would be a nice scale addition to your creation! Thought you would appreciate this motor's build.

I did take a 5th beer look at Conley V8 motors, but power to weight is all in favor of sparks.
