Yippee guys got things figured....technology ya sure ok....Any who moving on....So my progress has been well not like I planned...I have sanded and recoated so many time I've forgotten....My next one will be planned out far better..colored layers better layout of frame.... ok so moving on to current work....One of my recent side project on this hull is how to deal with the water in the rear steering compartment...Due to short link lengths and close proximity of everything I decided to move where I seal the hull...I chose to seal at the rear bulkhead verses where the links connect to the drives....That leaves me with water in rear compartment.... Ok I just drilled and installed 2 brass tubes at deck level straight out the rear. I then used some lightweight foam to create a funnel so to speak forcing the water out the rear...I figure withing a few seconds of hitting the throttle the rear compartment will be empty and wont see water till I bring it in...Ok so now onto the pics......

Hey builders..Thought I would add some more parts of the build that I havent posted... This time Is flaotation...I personally build my flaotation into the hull. I feel that it adds to the strength of the hull plus you don't have to worry about foam moving around in the hull.

I use a 2 part foam that is similar to the stuff you can get from hardware store... This foam is lighter and I think is stronger than the store stuff...I first prepare the areas I want to fill.. To do this I section off areas that I will not need to use... I do this by adding balsa to the bulkheads and ribs to make sections. Once all areas are prepped I mix the foam and pour in a small amount. I do the foam in layers to prevent over-expansion and not cause bulging. After I apply enough layers to allow the foam to expand over the top of the hull I will start the shapeing and removing of the excess foam. I like to use a hacksaw blade to rough trim the foam, I then switch to useing sandpaper Id suggest about 120 grit so that the process dont go to fast . When shaping the foam keep in mind the arcs and shape of hull. After I have filled and done the shapeing I then go back and use my dremmel with a 1/2 inch sanding wheel and hollow out the foam areas. This removes some weight and yet will provide a pocket of air.

I get my foam from a store called express composits. This can be a one stop shopping place for building hulls. They have many variaties of cloths and marine epoxies as well as gel-coats and coloring ...Btw guys this place has a history of boats ....
here is the link to thier website... http://www.expresscomposites.com/

Ok so onto the pics.... Happy building

As A side project to the build I have made the intakes and exhaust...I have not yet attached them I want to get the finish as prepped as possible before attaching the intakes. I will attach the exhaust after painting... I used lightweight foam to sculpt the intakes, then gave them a few coats of poxy... Here are the pics of the intakes and exhaust...

As this is a more scale type of set up I used thru hull pick up.. To make them I use .125 brass tubing, I then use my trusty propane torch to heat the bend are till its red hot then let it cool slowly do not cool with water!!! Once the tube has cooled I then use my trusty tube bender to bend the tube to create a 45 deg. bend... Once this step has been done the are ready to be fitted to the hull. I try and locate my pick up as far back and low as possible..Seeing that I am running twins I will be installing two pick ups per side.
Once I get my holes drilled and get the tube to lay down and fit nicely I then trim the pick up end of the tube. I try and cut the tube a bit big then file or sand to final shape. I shoot for about a half inch of angle....Well heres pics...

Been slow lately I have movedy project to another room in apt and still getting things arranged...lol small room ..I am also setting up another gecko tank in same room so a bit crowded at the moment. I hope to get back to work soon!!! Doing a hull from scratch isn't all that hard and is very rewarding once you see it run!!!
