Well guys I have been busy getting my steering machined out which is now done. lately I've have just completed a set of drives with steering. Turned out awesome. Picks of my cat project will be posted here. The results of the other drives will be posted in my custom hardware thread. I hope to get pics up soon. Work is crazy busy. Doing 6 10 hr days so hard to squeeze in other stuff but will do my best to keep you guys up to date.....

Been a while since last post of pics....wow life can reach out and grab ya sometimes....So I finished the machining of the steering heck not sure what to call it but it works guess Ill call it a pivot...? I had the issue of a difference of height levels between servo arm and the drives....When working with linkages like this you have to be aware of the pivot rotation of the ball ends and also the throws involved at all points...Took a few trys before I got something I liked then I just improved on it... Keep in mind these pics are taken of the drives mounted up on a mock up of the real hull...Once I get everything placed in the hull I will find the perfect spot for servo (not yet picked out)...once I have my placement of servo figured out I will then proceed with final linkages and thru hull holes....I am now shopping for power plants for this hull
With some help from ready watts a awesome help to the guys here i was able to regain some of mt forgotten knowledge of picking motors ...took a while but readywatts had the patience to help me out Thanks a bunch...
I am pulled two different ways...In runner and outrunner....I am thinking an 8s set up will be perfect...I am a casual boater never raced prolly never will..lol tho I have heard of a few local guys so who knows...back to the power....
This is an economical build and hi speeds not needed 40-50 mph will be fine for me...
As far as inrunners go I am looking at leopard motors in the range of 4082 3y a bit hi on kv Hmmm whonder how many amps???still learning...

As far as ourrunners go I know they are powerhouses and run lower amps and are much cheaper both at the motor end as well as the esc due to lower amps... Seeing this isnt a raceboat and my budget is tight this may be a good option for me.
Dont get me wrong guys I love a fast boat !!!My 42 in cat built for a gasser runs out at about 55 mph without fine tuning and that was fun enough for me heck outran the chaseboat I was in....Had to keep slowing down...lol...

So back to power plants...My plan is to run 4s2s or is it 2s4s my other hulls run 4s so a nice split on the packs.. And much easier to keep packs ran equally ...

My other thought was 6s so I could use the cells in my trucks and planes, but the cells would get mismatched usages not good for cells run in series or in paralelle...

I am open to options ...lay them on me If anyone has any lightly used motors in this range let me know

          Ok onto the pics...

Nice Akerman steering layout, might keep the inside turn motor from loading up so much.

Running twins off a single servo one cannot have binding or unequal throws. Took a few trys to come up with a working concept...but I feel.it should.do the job just fine..

About 35 degrees tho may be able to increase that by a few on final install...hope its enough...
I As of now I am still searching for the best motor I stepped down to 6s I took the plunge and bought 2 Turnigy Marine 180A Brushless Boat ESCs I know thier not the best but so far i havent had any problems with turnigy esc's .....As of now I am looking at the leopard motors and figureing the kv's and where I wanna run at...

Well reguardless of long hours at work I have managed to get some motor mounts made up....I may change these to water cooled versions. Seeing work is kicking my butt I will wait till after I recover from work itis when my brain is working better.

But here are the pics of what I have so far mind you these mounts will work fine I just cant commit yet...lol

that looks similar to what I use, but I have no "vent holes" near the armature.
I do not use a rear mount,no need for it.
I found 1/8" plate is plenty strong.

Yeppers the 1/8 is plenty strong to support the motor. I ad the rear support to take the load off of the end bell...not so sure them 3 lil screws holding the end bell on is sufficient.....I remember some issue with end bells coming loose. Not a good thing lol my original intent was to add water cooling to both mounts...will have to think about that for a while before I commit so mounting them permanently...
My ESC s came in today. Now to do the research on whatever upgrades they need...they come with a 3 caps on the main board and 4 smaller caps attached with short wires.... these ESC are turnigy 180 -300 amps. Time to read. Happy building ...

Things have been slow on the build Tho I did get alot of stuff done this weekend...I have redone the motor mounts...For them i used recycled heat sinks from a projection tv Nice magnifying lenes in there also...fry so big ole ants with them... ok back to boats...I wanted some cooling so I drilled out and fitted a pc of alum to inm the fins...then added copper tubing bent 90 degrees for ins and outs.. I have also added foam blocks for the rear corners...I used a lite weight foam that is easy to shape yet strong enoung to do the job...before attaching I hollowed them out to reduce weight.... I will also use a pourable expanding foam later in the steps ..I feel we need to add it so why not use it as structural support as I go...That will come later...I am hopeing to cut and fit the servo hole tmo at work...Hate cutting c/f...at least it wont be in my home and ill have a better means of controling the dust... I have started working on the rear steering compartment....Not totally sure about how to deal with the water....I may make a wet well of sorts and make the real seal on the transome...This compartment will have its own hatch for doing whatever needed inside...
I cant wait to get the servo and linkage set up so that I may finish the rear corners...Once I know exactly where the drives will need clearance I will build around them...
Well guess its time for pics...

Here are some more pics of the recent work...The layout for servo hole to be cut BTW I will be useing a 1/4 scale hitech 805mg 343 oz or torque hope its enough...lol I will need to to a seperate bec for this and will get to that later...Once I have the servo in and mounted I will next work on the radio box in which will be the rx, bec batt, and connections for the servos..I plan on routing the servo wires under the deck hidden from site and keeps the area free from extra wires....I have to drill the holes prior to skinning process..after drilling the wire holes I will need to add rubber goromets to prevent chaffing of the wires... I am also working on the hatch useing the smae foam as I used for the rear corners...Once I have the shape I want I will use it as a mold and do a f/g overlay which will make a nice liteweight canopy...Gosh I like my job almost endless supply of various materials to try and use ...and the equipment to do all this stuff....I will add pics of canopy /hatch as I get a bit closer to what I want...Alot of vids and pics to look at...lol...Happy building guys....

So far this week I have managed to get the hole cut in the deck for the servo tray..I have also cut another hole in the deck for the rx box ...I have routed the wires for the servo and esc's under the deck for a cleaner look...Was a bit of a challenge but will be worth it in the long run...So many phases of the build going on at once...I have also been doing the cooling mod to my esc's. would be nice to get this in the water this season...I have also been making a custom hardware set up for customer.

I will be getting pics up this week I hope.. I have also been doing a lil body work as I go...kinna going for the mystic look...Happy building guys lakes are thawing..
