so, If I go with the 1600 on 6S, I get 37k unloaded, That seems fine.
Looks like a bit happened while I was typing my last reply.
1600 on 6S is not too mad. I have one that I am shaking down now. It is a new hull and it will take a bit of sorting but is a reasonable setup with a 438 and then I'll try the bigger props.
Keep in mind that this 1600Kv motor is an OR (outrunner)

See it....find the photos.....sketch it it....build it........with wood
Fair enough, I just don't see you getting 60-70mph from a 540XL in a 36" boat though. The other estimates of mid 50's is more realistic.
Other than having already started on the hull, why so big if you're on a tight budget? On a smaller hull you could get the same (or more) speed on more affordable equipment.

Don't get discouraged. I would recommend sticking with 4s2p for the time being. That power source will push you to the speeds you want and it won't cost as much for an oversized motor to make it happen. It is typical to run a 4s rigger at speeds up and over 75mph while remaining cool.
Parsons is right. For a 4s rigger made out of wood, you may want to consider a slightly shorter hull. It can be done, but it is recommended to start with something proven first.
Put it this way, there are some in Europe that run riggers as large as 33" on 3s1p and less than 45 Amps. These riggers are setup for oval racing and typically run 75mph+ in the straights. That being said, you have to understand that these are very light builds and are typically made of light lay up fiberglass or carbon.
Damn, those must be really light and slick hulls to hit 75+ mph on ~550 watts! For a 4s rigger, how many of the ones running in the 70's are going it on a Feigao 540XL? Those motors just don't have the oomph that a bigger neu/leopard/lehner/etc does.

I just wanted one this big because it was initially intended to be gas, not electric, but I have no experience with gas so I wanted to keep this where I was experienced. I think I'll go with a 4S on either 1800 or 2000, on the 540XL. I would love to run this on a neu 1515, a nice leopard, or a lehner. I just don't have the money. Being 14, I do not have a job that pays minimum (15 is the minimum age in Canada). I teach snowboarding in the winter, and make about 60$ a year. I delivered papers, that brought in a hefty 400$, at 10$ a week. I am gonna go with the turnigy 180, so 5S might be a bit better of a plan, to keep the amps down. hardware can be picked out at low prices, a rudder from HK (already found one, and I have done my research, it is a good one.
I'll get a strut, motor mount, shaft, and maybe batt from OSE. I guess 50-60 mph is an easier goal.
