Today, with a slight glare from the sunrise, I hit a Manatee No Wake wooden pole at about 40mph. It tore open the nose of the hull and spit it apart.

Guess that's the end of my testing on the Apparition.

I'm still puzzled at why I kept getting water splatter in the hull. It didn't start doing that until after I broke the prop shaft a while back. The Genesis is doing the same thing. Seems there's water getting in the drive tube and being splattered by the drive cable... Argh. That's annoying. Maybe the strut needs to be better sealed where it meets the stuffing tube?

I dunno. It's a holiday, I'm at the beach and there's bikini's galore today. Time to take the dog for a walk at the beach.
That sounds about right to me. With that motor on 4s your looking at almost 40,000 unloaded rpms! I think that combo really needs a smaller prop to get the most rpm as possible from that motor. I have the same motor/esc/battery combo in my 31-inch cat(except I have the 2200kv castle) Gotta love those castle motors!

Yeah the 2650 doesn't have the grunt that the 2200 has, so runs better when it's spun up high. The 540 motors in the KOS are the same Kv and they like to be spun up too. The 2650 pulls too many amps at lower RPM and overheats the ESC before it has a chance to get going and come alive.

Haven't spun up the 1527 in the Genesis yet. Although I have turned a 55" prop on 3s.

Apparition is all repaired, cleaned up, waxed up, charged up, lubed up and ready to rock. We'll see what the weather is like in the AM.

Going to try the 36mm prop and see if it picks up or loses speed. This is where a data logger and rpm sensor would come in really handy. Wish I could work out a deal with a guy for one. Hint Andy.

That motor has so much grunt, it doesn't care. It's only good for about 38-40 mph on 3s. I'll get some exact numbers next time I take it out. I just kept tossing on bigger props till I ran out of props! I had a 57 on her, but it's a big enough prop that when I dead sticked the throttle, there was enough drag to spin it right off the shaft!

OMG, that's awesome. I love type-o's like that. Good catch!

(I just picture actually trying an airplane prop in the water)

                    Interesting. 3s4p 2650kv 55mm prop = Melted Connector and 55.5 MPH.

                    Fun day. Lots of 5's.

Somebody mentioned earlier that if the cells wouldn't keep up with the amp draw the ESC would enter low voltage mode... well, I added more cells and doubled the c value and had some excellent results.

Even after installing heat shrink on the drive tube and strut I'm still getting water splatter.

Did you put a small piece of silicone tubing at the motor end? And are you getting enough grease in there? You may always get a very small amount... but it shouldnt be puddling.

Yeah, vinyl tubing over the top. This didn't start until after I broke the prop shaft.

I have a new strut setup coming, so hopefully that will take care of the leakage. We'll see.

Yeah something doesnt sound right. Is the splatter all over or just in line perpendicualr to the end of the stffing tube.

It's puddling and splattering. I didn't lube the shaft today, so couldn't tell if it was all grease or just dirty pond water... It stained the motor mounts and a few other places, so assume it had a good grease content to leave that kind of residue...

What kind of lube are you using?? I had the same problem and switched to thicker speed grease from aquacraft and it went away. The lube I was using was too thin and would wash out right away.

I've got some. I'll try putting it on thick and see how that does. Last time it just created a huge puddle/splatter of grease from the tube, but maybe with the shrink wrap around the strut/tube it will reduce that.

                                We'll see.
