You have your motor mounted far foward?I think these smale scale boats run on the edge @ 3s lipo. How many amps do you pull with the X430? Id like to add that I dread scratchbuilding the cowl for this Atlas i really with I had an abs or fiberglass supplier . I need a wirebow foam cutter. I'll probably have to make one; that's usually how things like this go.

Im too cheap to buy aluminum hardware for these small boats so ill make some from brass and silver solder. Here are some plans I sketched out a few min ago.Where does the leading edge of the rudder do best in relationship to the prop. Im assuming the leading edge of the rudder need to start at the trailing edge of the propeller . This facilitates undisturbed water for the prop to eat. Is that right?Last edited by Xfactor; 03-17-2010, 02:52 PM.Comment

Pickelfork turn fins are mounted on the back of the sponson. you can just add an 2/56 nylon screw that can easily break of you hit something"Our society strives to avoid any possibility of offending anyone except God.

Dont no about that brass solder thing i have a 24'' rigger and got Hughs strut and rudder to gether, i didnt hit anything on the rudder but cought on my shore string one time just alittle snag and pulled the rudder right off from the solder i resoldered it andit pulled right off with my hand so then i took it with me to work and tack welded it and yes i can weld very good but, the weld didnt take well to the stainless rudder and pulled it right off again now i will just but the store bault stuff... good luck with yours thow..PS nice cowl plans..Comment

The cowling is starting to take shape. I dont know if I'll fill it with foam and shape, stretch some speaker grill cloth over the framework and brush it with polyester resin,or plank it all the way around and sand it to final shape. It needs to be a hollow cavity so it will drop nicely over the motor;with some room to breathe.Dagg.Comment

You may notice that theres a piece of wood just inside "YOUR" left sponson that looks like a plank. Yes it is. I don waste materials. I c.a. scrap peices back together to form sheets then cut parts out. Works for me. I keep a big waste basket with scrap balsa, ply, brass tubing, etc.About that hardware;you have to use silver bearing solder or braze and a torch. I have a strut on my 12th scale that runs a 6xl and a 642 no problems.I plan to grind the solder fillets and paint the hardware' so It doesnt look so cheesy.Comment

Its cool brother i just didnt have good luck with it, ican braze but i think i may just drill a tinny hole and install a bolt in mine, i hear ya about not throwing peices away i have a little box for my left overs never no when you may need a little peice...The cowl looks good, good work,,,Comment

Heres the rudder post in progress . I drilled the flat piece of brass a little larger than the tube and beveled the edge of the hole with a counter sink bit; so the solder could have a channel to flow into and form a nice fillet around the tube. In the blurry shot im trying to show the solder fillet on the back side that was grounded flush with the brass plate. Im tuggin on it now. It will pull your transom off first.Note the silver ring in the blurry photo around the tube?I cant find my 1/8 inch drill bit. Looks like ill be going to wal-mart tonite.Last edited by Xfactor; 03-17-2010, 08:24 PM.Comment
