Nice Hull work! I notice your power source will be 2 nicads..............you will not be pleased with the performance of a 9XL on 12 nicad cells. That motor can draw 100 amps.......it will suffer. Just as an option.....Have you considered going with a big ol' Graupner 700? Folks have done it with good results. It only draws about 25-30 amps and personal experience with them has shown me they can swing a big prop...........i've ran up to 447's with the 8.4 BB Turbo on 14 cells. Just a thought as an inexpensive option. Keep us up on your build, nice work.

well i just got back from my b-day party and came in to some cash, now im thinking about going to a bigger badder setup and run a lipo or some nice ni-cd batterys.. im going to get the hull done (sanding) and lay the glass some time next week and think about what kind of motor would work great, still going to run the 4mm stright shaft and what not but now thinking more speed and power now that i have some money. any thing that you guys think will be a better or greater setup please let me know, just a reminder i dont want a 100mph boat but in the high 30s low 40s will be nice and with a decent run time..Comment

I have been watching this biting my nails and kicking my self in the arse for ever getting rid of my Villain hell even if i had to replace the motors every 40 runs or so and ran 2x2s it was soo much fun stock!! I cant wait to see this finished. I wanted to do the same thing but run a single vxl waterproof system.Comment

well thanks man i like to see what others think about what im doing.. i had a post not to long ago that had pics of my old single set up (just a though) was the name of the post but now i wanted to do a full build im gonna try and do it right for my first build i just need to under stand more on the motor and esc im not to great with amps/volts and batterys to stupied to under stand how to mach it all up..Comment

I take it you didnt care for my 700 graupner option.............it was just a thought. If you are going to run the 9xl you need lipos for sure. BTW that motor will pull much more than 50 amps.............you need at least a 120a ESC...............I have a 9XL in another boat.........i run it with a turnigy 120a.NEED PARALLEL CONNECTORS?? well the wood work is almost done!!just need to sand down the epoxy in the center (still needs to cure) and i got to say just to wood in the back of the boat is really strong it will not flex if you put a good amount of pressure on it with your hand.. my guy told me next weekend i can get the glass work done at his house and im going to order more parts.. and maybe start the prop.

The wood is looking awesome! Your hull shouldn't have any problems.
If you are going to be running a 540XL motor, most people use at least 4mm gold plated bullet connectors, but I guess the deans might work. Be sure to use a small prop to start with.
I updated my FECalc with LiPo and Feigao motors. On a Y535 and 4s LiPo with a 9XL, you should be drawing around 50 amps continuous and getting 38mph. This will give you a 5.5 minute runtime with NeuEnergy 4900Mah LiPos. The prop you have, with the 40mm diameter and 1.53" pitch, is looking a bit large for a 9xl on 4s with your hull...
You can try it, but work up to it. Don't start with the big one. Absolutely do not run that prop with your NiCds.
I'd give this one a shot in 38mm diameter:

Please understand though, IME, FECalc will recommend a prop that is too small for a hull. I went with what was recommended by FECalc on a small 8 cell (GP3300's) mono, and the boat wouldn't even get on plane. I believe a 40mm prop should get your hull on plane, but IDK about going down as far as a 35mm prop... Hopefully we can get someone with more knowledge in here.
