I'm a little fuzzy on my memories of the late sixties, and early seventies, but I fondly recall my intro to Sweet Jane.
Did I say *my*intro? I meant, *the* intro, silly me.
Uptown Manhattan; late Eighties :
"So there I was holed up in a tiny park view room on the 25th floor at the San Moritz, frozen in agouraphobic meltdown from too many years of Kalifornication. My two week business trip had me weekending in NYC instead of Miami, where I spent a week on the infield of the Miami Gran Prix where the company I worked for had a small, silly booth. If the International Boat Show had been in town during race week as it had been in previous years, I'd be prowling South Beach feeling out of place as usual. But this year, it was NYC, where I was born, raised, and came at least partially of age. But as much as I wanted to take the elevator down to the street & hop a cab to Greenwich Villiage where in the late fifties I hung out in the radical coffehouses or in the mid sixties was a psuedo-intellectual at the New School nervously clinging to my student deferrment, I was stuck in place. In a tiny room hovering over the Greatest City On Earth not fully understanding why. By chance, or likely by divine intervention the local station on my room's tinny tv/radio began playing Sweet Jane. F'ing whammo ! There it was, with NO APOLOGIES. By the time the guitars and bass kicked in that hypnotizing tribal rock & roll riff ( 3:20 in the vid), I was on my feet, down the creaking elevator and hoofed it all the way from 59th street to (Positively) 4th street. My favorite record (remember them) store, 'It's Only Rock 'N Roll' was still there on 8th street, and within seconds I traded my workwear embarrasslingly button down shirt for their signature T-shirt. And had an awesome day, one that brought me back to the time when a promising young adolescent had the world at his feet. And that day the world again returned under my Cali addled feet, as it had always been , and will always be, because, damn it, Rock 'N Roll will Never Die, MF'r "

Ah, Tony, the weirdness so predominantly put on display in the*village* by progressive, forward thinking, "psuedo-intellectuals". Maybe it's just me, but I do not see the exasperation, despair, and utter hopelessness of my mundane, meaningless,
corporately driven, repetitive day to day existence depicted in this painting. Frankly Mister Worhol, all I see is a can of soup. Oh, and Andy, get out and get some sunlight will ya.
So many new, and strange things occurred, all, "in the time of our lives", http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hfOwaG2glA
P.S. The guitarist in this band was only 17 when he joined it, but remarkably still 3 years older than Steve Winwood when he joined The Spencer Davis Group at 14. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tr4zB...eature=related
AND, speaking of Steve Winwood, Remember kids, guns don't kill people, sparks from boys with high heels do. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3M8Sk7X51kLast edited by runzwithsizorz; 02-08-2012, 10:36 PM.Comment

What does a band do with THREE lead guitars? well, I'm glad you asked. You grab the girls, head to Vegas, set the city on fire, and let that girl ROCK !! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2sZuD...eature=related

Well Steve Winwood is a guitarist and singer who was not truly recognised for his genius and he is not too shabby on a Hammond B3 organ
Also one from a great guitarist and thank you Mr. Dylan
and one from the one and only Janis Joplin

Douggie, not surprisingly we are on the same page there. Probably the most amazing recording of jazz inspired rock & roll, (with obvious hints of Brubeck & Coltrane) :

Thanks lads, I had a tube system but it was a pain in the arse to fine tune.....for all you young lads there are some great new artists but most of the new stuff is crap and I will not live in the of arena of very bad music reprorduction via mp3 sound. VINYL RULES as do many well recorded CD recordings and yes my system cost a few bob...do not buy cheap crap, if you have an interest in high fidelity.

As my user name would imply, I have always been a rule, and mold breaker. Even at an early age
I sought to break away from what the producers, promoters, and radio stations were bombarding
me with. It was always the, "top 40", and 10 of those never got played. How many of you have
ever wanted to scream at the radio and say. HEY, I've heard this song like 5 times this morning,
how bout you flip that record over, and let us hear whats on the other side! With the advent of
*FM*, there was some relief, and you even got to hear, GASP, the long version. This, however was
short lived, for soon the bean-counters, and suits stepped in. If you, were/are near a large
college, or university with a station you are lucky then to hear something different. Now and then
NPR will surprize me. My thirst for new music, as well as my budget, led me to spend countless
hours in the aisles of used record stores, and thrift shops. I do this still today, cuz, well,
you never know, maybe I'll find a replacement for that 8 track that no amount of scotch tape could
repair. By reading the reviews, or about the artist on the record jacket, sometimes I got lucky.
Other times it was name recognition, and by that I mean, artists would sometimes form a new band,
or *sit-in* on an album. Now and then various artists would get together and put out a jam session
recording. Sooo, on this one double album jam session record jacket I read three names;
Mike Bloomfield,(of The Butterfield blues band,ETC), Al Kooper,(of Blood,sweat,and Tears,ETC), and
Steven Stills,(of, well,-- that guy). Oddly enough, the name of the album was, SUPER SESSION.
Guess you could say I got lucky!!!
