Why didn't I think of that...

    Thanks George,

Do you cut two pieces of the two sizes of tube about the same length as the strut and let them float in the strut, or is it an interference fit? I may have tubing that size, have to go look. Or do you make it so the 1/4" tubing is full length and slide two shorter lengths of 7/32" tube into each end, leaving space for grease between, and maybe a bit less drag, kind of like a home built stuffing tube?

    Thanks again for the suggestion.

The stock ones are 1 1/2". Slide the 7/32" in the 1/4" and cut whatever size you like (i make all of mine at 1 1/2") The I cut a peice of 9/32" about 1/8" and slide that on one end. The take some solder and sloder the ends together. When its cooled cut slots or drill holes in them for the grease. Clean up all burrs inside and out. Make sure its really clean so you don't mess up your stub shaft.

Thanks, George. that's a great little "how-to" that I haven't seen anywhere before. I only have 7/32 tube, though, and no hobby shop within 250 km, so I'll have to order some. I have a tip to share with you, too. The steering rod on the SV hull I got from you was looking a little rusty, so I replaced it with one made out of an old stainless bicycle spoke. The factory ends fit perfectly. Looks slick and won't rust. Bike shops often will give the old used ones away or sell them for a nominal fee. I have lots as I used to build all my MTB wheels.

No problem. Yeah sorry about the rusty linkage. We only run in salt water so things gets that way. I'll remember the spoke when I run out of pushrods!

          Aloha,

Yes, I hear you about running in salt water. I live on an island in the Pacific as well... but at least we have some lakes and rivers close by to rinse off the salt. No need to apologize for the linkage, a hull and a servo for $25, I'll make a push rod.
