.187 option might be nice for those running upgraded setups with larger props. As long as the stock stuffing tube isn't a problem. I put a .187 aeromarine cable in mine and it felt ok dry spinning.
Might need a new collet for the .187 cable? I didn't test fit that. Wouldn't be a bad idea to get a better collet anyways. The stock one is pretty light duty.

.187 would be good LMK when they are available ? I`m going to try CC 1717 on my Spartan .

These are ready to go...just got the 5mm stock. I did not see them on OSE yet but I am sure he is getting some made. These will be brazed like the Hughey shafts. 150 and 187 size. They are factory specs.

Is the spartan upgraded cable ready ?
Did not see it at the ose web shop.

OSE doesn't have them yet, Jeff does.

Not sure. The .187 shaft is nearly 1mm larger diameter. I think you would need to either remove the teflon liner, or replace the stuffing tube and liner with a larger diameter setup.

This is just a guess, but it is why I went with stock sizing. I'm thinking a better quality cable should do the trick without going larger.

But I'm not looking to run extreme prop sizes and try to break speed records.

                            Hi Kevin,
Will the upgraded shaft solve the shaft overheating problem ?
The reason why the shaft overheat is due to the traxxas crap quality shaft ?
I have the same problem...should we go bigger on the flex shaft or remain the same ??

I really don't have the experience to answer that question.

I don't know that anyone knows for certain what is causing some spartan stuffing tubes to heat up, but I think the general theory is that the shaft is low quality and is "corkscrewing" inside the stuffing tube causing friction.

A high quality flex shaft should minimize the corkscrew effect, so I'm banking on a good quality flex shaft working for my setup.

I'm guessing Jeff is offering the larger flex shaft size for fellows like JPriami (or Brushless55 if he ever drops that CC1717 into his Spartan, hint hint, poke poke) that plan to push the hull to it's limits by running large, hi torque motors, and large props.

Those setups will place extra demand on the drive line.

Hopefully some of the more experienced boaters will drop in and give us the straight goods.

                              Kevin

EDIT: and keep in mind, if you go to the larger cable size, you will need to replace your collet as well.

Ok.. Actually worth the try... But if use the .187 I don't think can use the Teflon inner liner...
