I've had this idea floating around for a while now, i'd like to build a 35" or so cat and would love to put in the Velineon motor and ESC from the Titan/Spartan and a have a good, reasonably fast and reliable cat! Would the Genisis hull be too big (41") for the Titans/Spartans motor/ESC??

nope. The Genesis is MUCH smaller of a boat than you'd imagine. About 5" of the length is tunel overhang behing the sponsons anyhow.

I think that is a very good idea having a power mudule like that
If you did bust a hull, replacing your system into a new hull would be much easier

The purpose of this is to sell replacement hulls at $80.00 a pop. I was buying electro-vee hulls 3 sets for $59.99!! Pressed in the States FYI.

There are some pretty good nimh cells out now, cheap.. 1.25 @ 30 amps is common place now.

you will have better runs with more amps
30amps is kinda low for a FE boat

                            boating/electric newbie

Please be nice as I am very new(don't even have a boat yet)
Im very impressed with the sparton and will be getting on the backorder list soon, I've spent a long time reading this thread and it's sold me. I would like verify a few things as I've never had an rc boat or ran lipo's. As I understand the traxxas ESC has three modes, sport, race and training. I would suppose that the "training" mode on NIMH would only run about 15mph and be good for teaching my kids? The sports mode on either NIMH or lipo would be quicker and the "Race" mode would be were they get the 50mph on 6s lipo's. I think I'll be using both battery types as I'll let the kids learn with the NIMH and then let rip myself with lipo's. Is it as easy as taking out the NIMH and plugging in 2 3s lipo's and away I go?? I also have no understanding of lipo batteries and need to know what the best match for this boat, I'm guessing the higher the mAH the longer run times? Would this battery be overkill ?http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...-ROAR-Approved or would somthing like these be fine?http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...r-5000mAh-111V What sort of run time should I get from these batteries?
I need to learn alot about lipo's but a few quick answers would be a great help so I can get my order going.
It's a lot of questions I know, the way I see it is "you don't know if ya don't ask"

Hey brother, don't worry - I can still remember waay back when I didn't know it all!

A few things about lipos: if you over discharge them (by running them under 3v per cell without a low voltage cutoff - or even leaving them connected to your ESC in storage) then they may no longer take a charge. Always use LVC.
You must use a balance charger. Over 4.2 is a fire risk.

Always use a lipo charging bag - even in normal conditions lipos have potential fire hazard. Not to scare you, just stating the facts. My track will black list any individual who charges without a fire bag.

My other Velineon ESC training mode works very well. Should be fine for the kids in my opinion. THey have to learn some how. Just be sure to have a safe reliable retrieval method - I recommend a full scale boat if possible. Swimming can be dangerous and fishing poles aren't too reliable.

Another great method of governing the training power would be to get some smaller props. It may make for some "tuning" fun for you as well. Get a Garmin Foretrex GPS GPS for $100. Bragging is fun. And as the t-shirts say, "it aint braggin if it's true" :) Another method would be to use 3S or 4S lipo instead of 6S.

And yes, the 5000 mAh batteries should be fine. Also check out hobbyking.com for inexpensive 40c batteries.

PM me if you want some more one-on-one help.

thanks mate, that helps a bit, I guess I'll just get the gear ordered and wait (hopfully not too long) to play around with it all when I get it. Is it really just as easy as swapping the battery types, theres no program cards needed or anything? and any idea of the runtimes with the 3s 5000mAH? and just to go on a little, I've read a bit about the hitec x4http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_info.php/cPath/1574_116/products_id/184860/n/Hitec-X4-Four-Channel-Multicharger-6S-6A-50W would this charger do the job well enough for the venom 3s 20c 5000mAH batteries, or what would you suggest in the charger wourld, I would rather buy one kickass one rather than get a few months into it and need somthing else(I've already done that with my swallow AC/DC2 as it'll only charge one battery at a time)?
